Garmin support team answers to simple question

Recently I have created the topic about Gamin Connect Mobile compatibility problem with my phone model. In short words: application is not available in play market for one of three of my devices on my Google Account. That particular device has modern hardware and software fully compatible with Garmin Vivosmart. The only problem is that I can't install the application on my phone because of some settings set by developers which restricts it for that model.

I have tried to reach developers via emails to the support team and all I got is standard advices to look this app in a market; to call to the support center with a phone in hands and they help me; advices to check my region etc. Many answers by seems than they don't even read what I wrote in emails. I wrote phone model, wrote that I already made all checks, attached screenshots of play market restriction and provided other information which would help the developer to look into a problem. In fact any developer of that app could solve the problem in two minutes by looking into specs and allow it install in play market or just answer me with reasons why it is not possible. All I'm asking it is correct competent answer to my question: "Why app is not available for install on Huawei Honor 3C (HUAWEI H30-U10)?". Is that so hard?

I'm really sorry for such negative post but I'm very upset of such attitude to the clients.
  • Does that mean that if you install Google maps, it will become available?

    John_Nexus,
Garmin Connect mobile may be incompatible or unavailable for some devices due to a variety of factors and limitations. These factors could range from the actual performance of your device, the screen resolution, Android/iOS version differences, and licensing issues. Most of these restrictions are applied on a geographical basis, causing some of our Android and iOS applications to be incompatible, unavailable, or restricted to certain countries or regions.
In the case of your particular phone you are correct that it appears as if it meets the hardware and software requirements. That would leave geographic or licensing restrictions. As of right now I am not aware of any planned changes to these restrictions so unfortunately you will not be able to use Connect mobile on that particular device.

    GCMSupport Thanks you.

I will still try to solve the problem with missing libraries maybe there will be some result of that. The reason is why I'm doing all this is that I realy like Garmin Vivosmart but I almost gave up but almost is not complete :)

You won't get maps with a vivosmart anywhere in the world with any libraries, as the VS doesn't have GPS and therefore has no idea of your location! If you want maps, you have to have a device with GPS. (the Fr15, FR920xt also have step tracking today, as well as the announced vivoactive and F3)

GC doesn't use your phone's GPS at all.

Maybe. But I paste in here log line from debug file recorded while application was in installations process and as you see it wasn't installed because of maps library.
And again - I'm not talking about devices in this topic. Only about problem with application.
  • You mention cyanogenmod above. Are you using a custom ROM? Could that be the issue?

pshare No. I have original firmware. It is not even rooted.

Now the problem is solved and topic could be closed. I have flashed missing libraries from GAPPS as update.zip. For that operation I had to flash custom recovery first.
After maps library installation (who said that it is not required, ha? :) ) GC was installed from APK without any issues. In application internal compatibility devices list vivosmart is present as fully compatible also as many other latest devices.

It is funny that GC in play market app on the phone marked as installed but incompatible :)
