Forerunner 920XT issues - GCM hanging and Re-pairing required with pin

Hi guys

Hopefully support read this forum so it is a useful post and also to hear from others with similar problems

My setup
GCM 2.5.2
FR920XT (firmware 2.5)
Android 4.4.4
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact

Issue #1 sync hang

Had a lot of hanging when the forerunner is syncing.. in the image you see that the sync is hanging half way through. Once it hangs nothing to do but try and crash it (usually by turning off bluetooth on phone)
I think I have found a work around (think).. which is to leave GCM using the back buttons (repeated until it takes me back to the home screen) rather than use the home screen button.

Issue #2 re-pairing with pin
This is the real biggy
Several times a day I go out of range of the phone. When I do the connection is lost and the only way I can get it to re-establish the connection is through re-pairing using the pin.
If it was a 'click here to reconnect' button it would be fine.. but the whole thing means I need to ..
a. pull down the notifications bar from the top and click on the Yes to connect request (when the phone spots a request)
b. pull down the notification bar from the top again and this time go through the re-pairing process by entering the pin showing on the watch.

It is seriously taking away from my 920XT experience

Things to note
1. I am a long term Garmin user and have used GCM/bluetooth with my Edge 810, Vivofit and FR620 (the 620 could be fussy and not always connect, but usually worked)
2. I have tried the usual..
  • Turn on turn off Bluetooth
  • Turn on turn off phone
  • Remove device and re-pair
  • Uninstall and reinstall GCM

Would love to hear if this is a known issue that others are experiencing and if Garmin are working on some fix

To garmin.. really don't mind being a tester.. been with you guys since the FR301 :-)
  • I did, using latest GCM. I'm using Xperia Z1c.

I have to take back my confirmation. It used to work smoothly for a few days and now I'm (almost) back where I was. But the update improved it a bit for me - at least it sometimes connects automatically.
  • Using a Samsung Mini S4, and having a the issue that my 920 xt failes during sync. This came after the ant + update. It is very weird and now I need to sync using my laptop...
  • Reset my 920 XT removed it from Garmin Express and reinstalled the GCM on my S4 mini still nothing.
  • Thought I try my ios device, even then sync failes...
    Due to server error!
  • +1 for the issue

Got Garmin forerunner 920xt and Sony Xperia Z1 compact
  • There was a similar issue with the vivosmart, and it has been largely improved. We will be putting those same BLE upgrades into the 920XT in a update coming in February. Stay tuned!

Same pairing and re-pairing probs as all have stated... hTC One M8, Android v4.4.2

The 920xt is a really cool device, but the pairing probs really detract from the experience I expected when I bought it.
  • My 920 XT sometimes looses BT connection with my S3. After trying various things I realized that I have to reboot my phone. Repairing is not necessary. When the watch looses the connection, I can switch the BT off on my phone, but it is not possible to switch it on again. So I assume it is probably a bug of the BT stack in the android :-( And I do not expect that Samsung would release any bugfixed ROM anymore. But maybe Garmin will find a way to solve it in GCM.

Otherwise I like my 920XT. Previously I had 620 and the 920 XT is much much better device. I only hope I will not see any of the odd issues with 620 anymore.

RDNOLET, I have an HTC One M8 as well and yesterday I updated my phone from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4 and so far it seems to have greatly improved my bluetooth experience with the watch. My service provider is ATT.

Thanks for the OS upgrade tip. I upgraded Garmin Mobile Connect, and after weeks of not being able to re-pair, I was able to re-pair and has stayed paired for a day or so. Much longer than previous. I will remain optimistic.
