App running in the background

Since the last update (5.17, 9 sept 2025), my Connect app is continuously running in the background. Ive tried rebooting the phone and forced stop app but no luck. Even after denying all permissions, it was still there. When I turned off 'allow usages data in the background,' in mobile data it stopped. But it also stopped the app from working like it should. Is it a bug or what's going on?

  • Disable "Device Connectivity" does not exist (Samsung phone). I only can disable ALL Garmin Connect notifications ... And a few days ago these notifications simply never came up. The audio alerts during an activity now also do not work anymore. There must be some major bugs in the last update.

  • Long press the notification and then turn off.

This will turn off ALL notifications from Garmin Connect, not only the "Sync" notification.

    disable Device Connectivity.

    There is no such thing.

  • Odd. Which Notification categories do you see?

This is on my Pixel 6 Pro.

  • I don't even know how to get to that list. The only list that barely resembles your screenshots on my Garmin Connect app can be accessed by Settings->Notifications->Push notifications and looks like this:

    • Activity Uploads
    • Badges
    • Health Snapshots Uploads
    • ECG Recording Uploads
    • Requests
    • Accepted Requests
    • Membership Confirmations
    • Invitations

I appreciate your effort to help.

  • Hold the app icon in the app drawer or on the home screen and select App Info > Notifications. You can also view the notification settings in phone settings > Notifications > App Notifications > Garmin Connect.

Nothing is in Garmin Connect. This is just the standard phone settings.

  • For the context:

My phone is Samsung A52s currently running Android 14 One UI 6.1.

I cannot access "App Info" the same way you describe, but there is a similar method. Anyway, on the "App Info" page there is "Notifications", and when I tap it all I get is:

    • Allow notifications (there is only on/off, no list whatsoever)
    • Alerts (sound/vibrations/silent)
    • Notification types (lock screen/badge/pop-up)
    • Lock screen notifications (show/hide)
  • It might be possible that this notification can be hidden somehow (although I also can't find the settings on my Samsung phone).

However, given that this notification has just appeared for the first time for a number of people, it feels like it might be caused by something which should be investigated. Just disabling it may be hiding an underlying problem - like taking the batteries out of your smoke detector.

  • There seems to be a more widespread problem with notifications from Garmin Connect. Another "new" thing I noticed today is that whenever an audio prompt plays on the phone, there is an "Audio Prompt In Progress" notification. It never appeared until recent Garmin Connect update, similar to the "Sync" notification I don't see any way to disable it, and I cannot even imagine why such notification exists in the first place. Why would anyone want to see such notification?

  • whenever an audio prompt plays on the phone, there is an "Audio Prompt In Progress"

That is probably the "Audio prompt" notification. Try turning that off.

I checked the possible settings on my wife's Samsung S25 and it completely lacks the notification categories.

I think I found it now. You must enable them.

System settings > Notifications > Advanced settings > "Manage notification categories for each app"

  • Thanks a lot for taking the effort to investigate. That last piece of advice finally seems to have solved to problem.

But that makes me wonder. Why do those notifications exist in the first place? In what way are they meaningful to the user? Why does Garmin think that these things  (sync service and audio prompts) require my - or anyone else's - attention? What kind of action - apart from dismissing it - can one take when seeing these notifications?
