Where has the return key gone on the keyboard in Android

When I edit notes against an activity, on Garmin Connect Android app, the recent update seems to have removed the 'return' key from the pop up keyboard. So when I add notes, it can only be one long line of text, rather than being able to add returns and go to a new line. The previous return key has turned into an 'Done' key, which just saves your notes and comes out of it, not adding a return into your text.

Does anyone have a fix for this please?

  • Samsung and long press does not work.  The Return key has changed to 'Done', but only in the Garmin Connect App.

  • Samsung and I have swype turned on.  Not possible to hit 'return'.  The return key has changed to 'Done' but only in the Garmin Connect App.

  • Probably Garmin has changed the options given to Android when activating the keyboard. Why they did it we can only guess. And different Android keyboards can react to those options differently, which explains why some keyboards still offer the return/line break using a long press or similar.

(Based on quick googling there are at least two settings related to this in Android. The app can set an option for singleLine, which "informs the IME that the text field is single line and IME should not show return key" (IME = Input Method, i.e. the keyboard). Or the app can set IMEaction=Done, which "Signals the keyboard what type of action should be displayed", and Done "Represents that the user is done providing input to a group of inputs".

So, for some reason the Garmin developers have now decided that activity notes are meant to be single line. Shrug)

  • Garmin Support is aware and has communicated to me that this will be fixed in an upcoming app release.

If this affects you please open a ticket with support.

  • I've actually been having the same problem for a few days now...
