Paddling Activity Gone?!

Garmin never finished the Kayak app / activity, even it being sold as a "premium" frature only available in the more expensive watches.

Kayak app does not count strokes and cadence like SUP and ROW apps do.

My workaround was to use SUP in the watch and later change it to "Paddling" in the Garmin Connect Android app. I had to do this because SUP shows pace (min/km) instead of speed in the graphs page.

Please bring back "Paddling" activity to the sports list, at least until you include proper stroke fields in the Kayak app to make it useful.

  • Nice! I tried just putting "cadence" in the app builder. What configs did you use?

Yes, I used just the expression "cadence", but I had to register the activity as Run, although any other activity not suppressing steps would work. That's practically any activity excluding all Cycling types of activities, and the concerned Kayaking. I then changed the type to Kayaking in Garmin Connect, and the cadence remained preserved. Do not forget enabling the option of registering to the FIT file, at the AppBuilder profile for the Cadence.

Did you just run or also moved arm simulating paddling?

When recording the test activity I was just sitting at the desk, moving my arm with the watch.

  • Garmin - please include paddling as an activity again! Can someone fix this.

  • They did include paddling back to Connect. It was missing for only a few days. Fortunately.

  • Looks like "Paddling" activity is gone again... and all activities replaced by "Canoeing".

  • Yes, the way I see it they just renamed "Paddling" to "Canoeing" but it's still the same thing.

"Kayak" activity is still useless without stroke fields and accounting for altitude instead.

  • Yeah but not all paddling is canoeing... for example dragon boating is not canoeing. Paddling was a nice generic term if Garmin doesn't want to have too many options...
