Kindly help me to resolve and get back my data

  • I ran 21km run on jan 5 2020, recorded and saved in garmin, but activity not shown in my app, but only step count is showing
  • The synchronization likely did not complete. When syncing, you must wait till the circle around the watch icon completes. Only then the sync is finished. You can retry it, or you can sync through the USB cable and Garmin Express. If you continue having problems syncing, look up "synchronization troubleshooting" in the support section, or have a look at these pages:

I'm having the same issue with a brand new vivosport. What device are you using? (See https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/vivosport/147329/activities-missing-in-garmin-connect for me and other users with the same issue. Unfortunately no fix just yet).

  • Did you try the synchronizing over USB + Garmin Express?

Yes. Note this happens sporadically. Did a run and a walk on Sunday - they didnt sync. Then did a test walk routine, which synced. Did another run this morning which failed to sync and then a number of short test run/walk/other activities afterwards that all did sync.

The activity summary shows on the watch (distance/time/calories/etc) but the activiy itself never syncs to Garmin or then Strava.

Event logs on the watch hints at possible storage corruption, want to confirm with proper chkdsk myself later:

  • Well, I would expect that the chckdsk error would prevent writing the data to the local storage, and not necessarily preventing the sync (unless the watch logs also errors from the phone storage, which I doubt strongly). However, if you get Chckdsk errors at a brand new watch, I'd recommend replacing it. That's a sufficient reason for wanting a replacement.

Well, if it can't store data on the watch without errors, then syncing will very likely fail due to no, or corrupted data on the watch.

Did a chkdsk from Windows, which gave this output:

Windows is verifying files and folders...
Removing trailing folder entries from \GARMIN\NEWFILES
\GARMIN\SPORTS\0RRUN.FIT first allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be truncated.
\GARMIN\SPORTS\2CBIKE.FIT first allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be truncated.
\GARMIN\SPORTS\4CARDIO.FIT first allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be truncated.
\GARMIN\SPORTS\5GENERIC.FIT first allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be truncated.
\GARMIN\SPORTS\6WALKING.FIT first allocation unit is not valid. The entry will be truncated.
File and folder verification is complete.
Convert lost chains to files (Y/N)? y
8192 bytes in 4 recovered files.

Windows has made corrections to the file system.
    No further action is required.

        5,408,768 bytes total disk space.
4,096 bytes in 2 hidden files.
           30,720 bytes in 14 folders.
          225,280 bytes in 28 files.
        5,148,672 bytes available on disk.

2,048 bytes in each allocation unit.
2,641 total allocation units on disk.
2,514 allocation units available on disk.

Also, on the device in the hidden GARMIN\EVNTLOGS folder a new file seems to get created on each device startup, and it has a worrying amount of CHKDSK errors as mentioned in the previous post, example below.

I suspect the device local storage is corrupted/damaged and it's manifesting as sporadic activity logs being corrupted during storage, which prevents them from being successfully synced. I would expect some more obvious errors being thrown or logged though during the sync process if this were the case.

I am having the same problem this morning with my Forerunner 35! My last two runs were recorded. This morning it says it synch'ed but nothing is showing up in the app! I have tried three times and still nothing is transfered.

  • I am having the same problem this morning with my Forerunner 35!

Did you try checking the syncing troubleshooting guides, and followed all those instructions?

Hi Trux, I looked through a lot of information which is making my head hurt. So far, I keep seeing stuff about down loading a zip file to my computer. I only have my FR 35 linked to my smart phone. This has worked for over a year with only a couple of hiccups. Most recently, the FR 35 would not synch unless I hit the synch button on the app. I have turned off both the FR35 and my phone checked for updates to the app and everything seems fine.

  • I thought you were asking help with fixing the problem, hence my advices. But if you just prefer waiting till it gets fixed alone, I wish you good luck. BTW, I do not see any instructions for downloading a zip file to your computer in the troubleshooting guides I suggested, but if it is a file directly from Garmin, there is no risk, and you can do it with confidence.
