Livetrack Autostart has ceased to work

[apologies for cross posting this, i put it in the wrong 'Connect' forum the first time]

I dont know what has changed but about a month ago(ish) auto start for livetrack stopped working, I have an Edge 820 use that feature everyday (so my Mrs knows when to put my dinner on :D).

Ive tried all the obvious stuff and and still no joy:

1. Uninstalled Connect (twice), wiped app cache etc and restarted, reinstalled.
2. Unpaired, repaired bluetooth
3. Rolled back firmware on device....

None of the above has worked. The Bluetooth connection is fine as the devices still connect and the rides autoupload to strava etc. The Autostart only ever works if the app is open AND it is on the Livetrack page. This isn't practical, the whole point is that the LIvetrack just (auto)starts as soon as you start your activity, thats what is use to do.

The fact that it appears to be dependent on the Connect App to work at the moment has led me to believe that the problems is with the app (or the phone) rather than the Garmin device itself. Ive run out of ideas and would welcome so tips/advice from anyone that has experienced similar issues.

Thanks in advance.
  • I purchased the edge 1000 back in June 2018 and setup the Live Tracking so that my wife could track my ride on her iphone 7 plus. All was well for about a month. I then received notification of a software update which I installed after having to purchase a sim card. Since then it has stopped working.
This very annoying to have such a useful safety component that for not work.
I have sent an email to Garmin support and had nothing back from them with a solution or that they are looking in to it. Anyone got any ideas that worked for them please?

There are 2 topics on thits so I also post here.

After an reinstall of the android version of Garmin Connect the livetrack is working 1 time. After that livetrack is not possible. The message is:
Cannot send invites at this time. Try again later.

I never had problems with this app. So probably after an update of the software...
Please fix this else this app has no use for me.....

You are 100% correct. I was so happy it work the first time.

Then when I get to the trail and start it, I get this dreadful message : Cannot send invites at this time. Try again later.

When is Garmin going to fix this?
  • Hi all
I un-installed Garmin Connect from my Galaxy s8 and re-installed and providing I keep my Location Finder set on my phone, then Live Track works. I tried this several times and it still works. Only if I manually start Live Track which is an improvement.
If my location finder is not switched on my wife gets the email but no map to track my movement.

Looks like after two months this issue might at last have been fixed. Garmin should take a step back and start to properly test and evaluate firmware and software updates. SO SO tired of every update fixing one issue but breaking two other previously working functions.

Garmin probably doesnt have a good QA testers. This is regression testing. Big fail.

Don't blame the testers, this is a management issue. The most common thing to be cut in order to make "deadlines" is testing. The managers control that, not the testers.
  • Updated the app, still getting the "Livetrack Failed" message. I'll try to update the 520+ firmware tonight.

Updated to latest firmware. Still doesn't work.

I have found that livetrack will only work with one device at a time, so you have to select the device in Garmin Connect LiveTrack page on the phone. I have a Fenix 5 and a 520, it will work on the one selected and not on the other, pitty it can't auto select.
