"Bluetooth Troubleshooting" notification is almost always present

I appreciate the help it's offering, but it's going too far.

Most of the time my Garmin 520 is off, at home, and disconnected because I'm not riding my bike.

How do I get this message to go away and stay away? If I swipe it away, it comes back a few minutes later. It's really annoying.

Reply back from Garmin support yesterday.

Please try the following steps to resolve the message from coming up

The Garmin device will need to be connected to the Garmin Connect Mobile app before following these steps,
    • With the app open go to Menu
    • Select Garmin Device's
    • Push and Hold on Paired Device
    • Select Update Connections then look for system BT notification to input the number displayed on the Garmin Device.
You should no longer receive the Bluetooth error message.

Howerver, on doing this, I d not see anywhere on the Android app where we can input this number they refer to. Anyone?

Well I tried this and I do not see any area where we can input this number they speak of above in the Garmin Connect for Android app.

This is the latest suggestion from Garmin Support.

We are going to do what we call a cache clear on the phones Bluetooth and then re-pair the unit. Please follow these steps:

Please make sure that the Edge is up to date at software version 8.00, Garmin Connect Mobile software is at 3.11.1, and your phone is up to date.
    1. Open GCM, Select More, then Garmin Devices.
    2. Go to Garmin Devices
    3. Press and Hold Edge 520, select remove device
    4. Turn off the Edge 520's Bluetooth and then power it off.
    5. Go to phone settings and turn off Bluetooth and location services.
    6. Go to phone settings.
    7. Find Applications or Applications Manager.
    8. Select Connect.
    9. Select Force Stop
    10. Select Storage (Note: for Android 6.0 and higher)
    11. Select Clear Data.
    12. Select Clear Cache.
    13. Restart phone.
    14. Once the phone is booted up, turn on Bluetooth and make sure that location services are on.
    15. Open and sign in to Garmin Connect Mobile.
    16. Select, “Yes, add device."
    17. Find Edge 520
    18. Select Next
    19. Turn on Edge 520.
    20. Go to Bluetooth settings on Edge, enable the Bluetooth and select Pair Smartphone.
    21. Follow directions to pair device.
If this fails to resolve the issue, please let us know.

  • Worked for 10 minutes

I spent 10 minutes doing this procedure with my Edge 1000 and it worked (!!) for ten whole minutes. Argh. Version 3.12.0.1 of the app on Android and 11.0 on my Edge 1000.

This is the latest suggestion from Garmin Support.

  • After contacting Garmin support on this without any intelligible answer, and the situation to be happenning for quite a while for numerous people, I GIVE UP.

I deactivated all notifications from the garmin app on my phone thus fixing the issue as a Band Aid solution.

GARMIN INCOMPETENCE has to be outlined here on this matter that has been widely experienced, discussed and complained.

I shall remove this comment upon Garmin getting back to me eventually with a ligit fix.

  • Thanks for posting the compatibility matrix. I have a Samsung Galaxy 6 and a vivosmart HR so I see a check mark.

It took me a month to figure out how to get the band to stop buzzing but that did work. It is far from obvious that settings on the band get overwritten and ignored by settings on the Android app.

Three more months in I'm open to connecting my band via USB to a PC to run the Windows or Mac version of Garmin Connect to update the firmware if there is a fix.

What I really expect is Garmin to release an Android app version that figures out it has already buzzed once today and doesn't do it again. I haven't had a day with under several dozen buzzes on my phone. Since this happens on the phone it's clear that updating the firmware on my band won't matter. Just turn off the buzz as the default setting.

If it had ever beeped I would have sent back my band and gone with another brand. As it is the version tracking on the band are good enough that I ignore the buzzing on my phone.

    Hey there,

I faced the same problem as many users on this thread.
To be completely honest, it's not Garmin's fault as I discovered how to get rid of this persistant notification on my Android phone & my Fenix 3 HR with smart notifications enabled.

It's related to Android's power saving system. To get rid of this message simply go on:
    - Settings
    - Battery
    - Battery optimization
    - Then press the 3 dots settings on top right corner
    - On the list of optimized apps press Connect (Garmin)
    - Remove optimization

Also please note that I followed the FAQ information to resolve Bluetooth issues: http://support.garmin.com/faqSearch/en-US/faq/content/sNNUMnjsUn1k0TZwrJ43C9

"Update Bluetooth Connection in Connect Mobile for Android

Starting with the 3.11 release of Garmin Connect Mobile for Android, we have introduced an option to update the Bluetooth connection from within the Connect Mobile application to use the native Android Bluetooth system pairing. Updating to system level pairing may resolve any issues currently experienced with Bluetooth connection or syncing with your phone.

    To update your Bluetooth connection:
    1.Open Connect Mobile
    2.Tap (Menu)
    3.Tap Garmin Devices
4.Tap and hold on the device you wish to pair using system level Bluetooth pairing
    5.Tap Update Connection
6.Enter the pairing code displayed on the Garmin device in the Bluetooth prompt on the phone

Once the device has re-paired itself, the connection update is complete. If you experience issues when using this updated Bluetooth pairing, you can easily revert back to pairing within Connect Mobile only.
    [...]
Note: This option is only available on phones running Android 5.0 and above. "

YAY ! No more persistant message for Bluetooth problem resolution.
Garmin should add it on their Bluetooth problem resolution tutorial on Android though.
I emailed their support to forward the solution that worked for me.

    Best,
    D.
  • Hi guys,

This notification came back lastly after I changed my Watch.
Even the same settings I posted above.

I found the source of the problem in my case.

    I use a powerpack from Motorola: https://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Portable-1500MAH-Battery-Smartphones/dp/B00STVJGLQ
There is a feature to locate your power pack via Bluetooth and an application called: CONNECT (yep exactly the same name as Garmin's app).

When this pack is On and connected via Bluetooth, I got the notification to harrass me even my Watch is still connected and working correctly.
Maybe some developpers from Garmin could check if the app (on Android) is confused by Motorola Connect VS Garmin Connect and Bluetooth.

For now, I just turned off my Power Pack (and all location, battery gauge features) and I don't have anymore this notification.

    Cheers,
    D.
  • Solved in the latest Android update on my Samsung Galaxy 6

My Android recently did an update to Android version 7.0.

At this update every notification has a field "BLOCK NOTIFICATIONS" under them. I selected the one that comes with the buzz from my band. Ever since it has never buzzed since.

There were two types of notifications from my band, so I can't tell if the block I selected is per device or for Bluetooth notifications in general. I don't care. As long as my phone stops eternal buzzing about my band, the right thing happened.

Thanks Android developer folks for solving a Garmin problem.
