Default Sync only works with location services turned on

Former Member
I own a FR235 and a Nexus 5x.
Since few weeks I'm only able to sync when location services are turned on.
This problem was introduced after an update of Garmin Connect. It first asked for location service permissions, and then keeped asking to turn location services on.
Also a fresh install of the phone an GC did not help.
Garmin support does not respond via email.
Am I the only one with this problem?

Thanks

    Note 4

Pleae wait for system updste. My s6 after upadate dont need localization switch on. Everything works fine.

When I had 6.0 update I just had to turn on gps when I connected to the Garmin app, but everything I was out of range from my phone could not reconnect. I had to turn on GPS and go back to Garmin app which was a pain in the butt.

I was having many problems with my Note 4. The new update was not good for my phone and a few of my friends that have Note 4 had the same problems. I have a few friends with S5 & S6 who have not had the same problems so it might be just with the Note 4s. I've been running my Note on old Lollipop 5.1 for a week and it's working like normal and Garmin 235 stays connected to my phone.

The same situation was before new update (still version android 6.01). Now connecting and disconnecting without any problem (localization switched off).

    @Garmin: Any news on that?
My Nexus 5x drains like crazy with location services on.
  • Same problem with Galaxy s7...
No voice alerts! App works only with huawei, Sony.
I have take contact with garmin buth they don't take it seriously! Forerunner 630...450€ 😨 and not working properly with garmin connect? Shame on you garmin!
  • Try my app which runs in the background and keeps connection to the watch without location services (also works in Android 6). It is tested on Fenix 3, but maybe also works with Epix:

This has been annoying me too. If it is an android issue, why don't I have to turn on location to connect to the car? It connects automatically with location of, but I have to tien on location for garmin.

    Same Problem with other Vendors

I think the problem is not really a problem if vendors want. Same issue here: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/Charge-HR-requesting-location-to-be-turned-on-to-sync/td-p/1102935

But Garmin can avoid it. Syncing works with my Vivosmart HR after one update Garmin Mobile Connect. But after the next update it does not work anymore.
Please be so kind and make your customers glad with the next update.

It depands on the GMC Version

After one update it syncs without GPS on. After the next update GPS on is necessary again.:(
So I think it is possible to avoid that GPS has to be on all the time.

I ve installed older version of GC 3.8 on my Android 6 and connection and reconnection works without location service gps.

I m glad with that for the moment with my FR 235.

The GMRunner app didnt work with my android 6 on honor 6.

Where did you find the apk of garmin connect version 3.08? I have a Samsung Galaxy s7 edge. I also like to go back to software version 3.08
