BBB gets the Virb Basic camera

Well I finally splashed out and got myself a Virb Basic camera. I currently doing my first edit with it.

I have noticed that when I sync up my garmin edge 800 data to the video that sometimes the data still registers speed when I'm stopped. I do have a Speed & cadence sensor attached & linked (not the garmin one as it won't fit my Brompton)

Is there any settings I should do to make sure that when I'm not moving that the speed data comes up as zero? (I do have auto pause turned on the Edge 800.)

Also notice that when I sped up the footage (x8 speed) that the data on screen doesn't seem to match up as well either.

Should I have got the VirbElite instead of the basic to get all the data to match up with the video easier? I've only had it a day so still trying to figure most things out but I really like having the data on screen and matching the video as close as possible.

First video edit, will improve in time :P

Well after playing with the VIRB Basic for just over a day I have decided to exchange it for the VIRB Elite. I just want to have the data properly synced with the video and from what I understand the Elite version SHOULDNT have this problem with syncing the data and video *fingers crossed*

Anyways I'm still loving the camera and software so time for me to practice my film making and editing skills, Watch out for links to my videos soon

Oh here is my first one using the VIRB Basic & Garmin Edge 800 gps

I had an Elite, wanted a second camera and thought I didn't need two gps enabled cameras, then after a month returned it for a second Elite. I was tired of manually setting the clock and trying to line up tracks to video. I'm glad I did.

Interesting video! Camera worked quite well in low light, and amazing to see just how crowded it is, yet so bike friendly it seems.

    Thanks

I've now just upgraded to the Elite and had a quick go with it today on my commute home. I hadn't linked it to my cadence/speed sensor so thats not working right. Tonight I got it all linked and synced and will see if I can get a decent video and data to go with it but the part rides I did today everything looked synced up perfect.

Only thing I dont like is that when I connect with Garmin Express it uploads the GPS data of the video & from my 800. I only want my 800 data to go onto garmin's data base and the data from the Elite to only be used when I'm doing video.

Anyone know how to set it as I don't want duplicates of my gps data
  • Yeah, sure, just dissociate your VIRB Elite from Garmin Connect. You might have to remove your VIRB from Express and then re-insert it in Express, since I don't see a way offhand to remove the pairing with Garmin Connect in Express. I have my VIRB Elite set up precisely that way. It doesn't sync with Garmin Connect when it's attached. Only my 800 and my Fenix do.

Cool I'll do that then :) looking forward to getting some video up and running in practice for some events I'm doing later this month. Want to get used to the Virb Elite and VIRBEdit to get some good footage ;)
