Garmin express servers not working

I've been trying to add my edge 1000 for 2 days, Garmin express recognises the device but then when I try to sync with existing account, I get the error message that there is a problem with the servers ?

Is this a wide problem or just ltd to me?
  • Thanks Curt, i did try this already but wasn't any help, i'll give it another go but that is my point, I work in IT so i know that there can be issues but with consumer products, you expect them to 'just work' without having to spend hours on the phone or in forums having to find work arounds!

So after deleting Garmin Express from my machine, carrying out a master reset on the Edge 1000, trying to install GE from Safari, Chrome and Firefox, along with associated communicator plug in, waiting for 40 mins in a queue for someone at Garmin 'support' to pick up the phone (this was after i had emailed them with my specific problem and got back 2 generic answers, neither of which solved the issue) I am still left with a unit that although at the moment works ok, the software is not the latest version so all the proudly annouced bug fixes from yesterday, I dont have and before too long the maps will be out of date! Clearly not fit for purpose!

I'm bored with it all now so will cut my losses and run and flog it all off on ebay, along with my Garmin swim and forget about the impending Vector purchase. A shame as i liked the products but i can't be bothered to develop products which should have been developed in the first place!

    Very, very poor!!
  • OK, to help others I will reply here.
Got a 2nd hand Garmin Edge 500 and could not get it to work either. Spent hours and hours and finally solved it. Skip the complete Garmin FAQ with things like proxy, resinstall, etc. Also no difference in Windows & MacOS. The former owner deleted the Edge in his Garmin so that was no the issue either. I could login in Garmin website online with no problem so my account was correct. Furthermore when connecting with USB cable Garmin Express software could see my Edge (with green dot next to it). But when trying to login I got something like could not connect to server or trying to reach server without succes (the Dutch version so I have no clue what the English version is).
Without further ado my winning combination. On a forum I read something about setting your laptop in the correct country/timezone but this was already correct in my case. But it triggered me. What if the Garmin device in one way or another did not have the correct time/date? Here is what I did:
    1. Hard reset (in my case 3 out of buttons, check garmin website)
    2. let the thing find sattelites
BAM! synced after long time and worked in Garmin Express again.
I dont know if 1 is needed so you skip that probably.
What happened? The former owner had not used it for a long time so the Edge lost all (predictive) GPS positioning info. With all my fiddling today (and earlier) I never gave it the change to find sattelites again. In my scenario it has to find them from scratch so it took about half an hour. I bet a lot of people with this issue have the same.
