Garmin 910xt will not sync with Garmin Express, Ant+ OR GTC on mac

When I first installed GE, my 910xt would sync without fail but recently it just plain stopped. GE doesn't recognize it all ALL. I tried uninstalling GE, reinstalling GE, restarting - all that. None of that worked. I also reinstalled ANT+ after I uninstalled GE and even that did not work (FYI: I confirmed pairing is enabled and on.) Nor did Garmin Training Center "find" my 910. My Garmin edge 800 syncs fine with GE on my mac and if I attempt to sync my 910xt on my back-up, windows based laptop that still has ANT+ installed, it will sync without fail. Anyone else have this issue? It seems like my mac for whatever reason can not "find" my Garmin 910xt but other machines can and overall my mac can "find" other Garmin devices. Looking around on line I haven't found much information on how to resolve this....

Your issue is a little different then the normal sync issue. Garmin Express won't even detect your device when you try to pair it, correct? I have run across a posts where Express wouldn't detect a device and uninstalling Express then deleting these two files below fixed that problem.

    • Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.garmin.renu.client.plist
    • Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.garmin.renu.service.plist

Make sure you avoid any Keyboard USB ports or USB external Hubs when connecting the ANT stick.

    Hello Curt,

Exactly, Garmin Express (nor ant agent) detects my device from my mac when I try to pair it. I have tried what you suggested ( removing the plist files) but still the device doesn't appear. Is there something else I can do? It is completely useless right now.

I am not using any USB hub. Furthermore, according to Garmin express, the ant+ usb stick is connected.

    Thanks,
  • If you can, get hold of another USB stick and try that. FWIW, our USB sticks (one on each iMac) are both plugged into USB hubs and they work ok. They are the USB 1 sticks that came with the 310s.

I read through the posts again and I didn't see mention of a Master Reset for the 910XT. I try to only suggest those as a last resort. Please see the information in the FAQ:

    Hi Curt,

Resetting the device did the trick. Thanks!

    Best regards,

    Ok, back to not working...

I'm sorry for the troubles. This is definitely behavior unbecoming a 910XT, at this point I can only suggest that you contact Garmin Product Support and have them take a look.

Again I am sorry for the troubles.

    I don't own a ANT+ stick

I am sorry for the troubles. At this point you should be working exclusively with Garmin Express on the Mac. Have you gone through the suggestions in the FAQ: What troubleshooting options can I try when my ANT enabled fitness device will not upload data?

Hi, I recently bought a Forerunner 910xt. Even though I got what I thought was the full set, it didn't include a ANT+ stick. I'm guessing I need to sync by cable, however, the computer wont recognise the device at all, even though the cable seems to work (it starts charging the device as soon as I plug it in).

I installed ANT+ before learning what it really did, and when I got Garmin Express it got deinstalled automatically.

I don't seem to be able to move forward with this. Any aid will be useful.

I'm using a MacBookAir with an updated iOS.

    Thanks!

    Jan 4, 2015,

I am having similar problems. Garmin Express says it sees my 910XT device, tells me that the upload has been successful but the workouts do not show up on Garmin Connect.
I have followed all the suggested remedies without success. Deleted and reloaded Garmin Express, made sure that my 910XT has both Enabled with Pairing on and deleted the Device folder on my Mac. All was working fine until recently, had problems after upgrading to Yosemite OS.

    Any other thoughts?

The 910XT will only communicate with the computer via the ANT Stick. The cable is strictly for charging the battery. You will need to purchase the ANT Stick before moving forward.
