Server Error

I have a new Edge 820 (firmware 3.10) that I'm trying to add to Garmin Express 4.1.27.0 on a Mac, and when I attempt it, I'm receiving an error: "Server Error We're having trouble communicating with our servers."
Is this really a Garmin server-side problem or is there something else wrong?
I can connect this device using Garmin Express on Windows so it appears to be a problem with the 820 and the Mac version of Express.
  • No but the question really is whether your Mac can talk to the servers. Have you tried the link I gave you

    http://omt.garmin.com/

    to see if you can?

I have, and it can. As my posts said, my other 2 devices connect perfectly fine, but the 820 does not. The posts from the other 3 people with exactly the same problem with the 820 would indicate this is Garmin's problem, not mine.
  • We have created a ticket on this issue for further research and resolution. Once resolved, we will update this post.

Actually the problem is only for owners of the 820 unit and i believe only on Mac. I managed to connect my edge 820 to garmin express on a windows machine but on my Mac it's still reporting the same error while i'm able to talk to the servers through the URL above.

This leads me to believe this is really a problem with Mac AND edge 820 AND Garmin express.

    Possible Resolution

As I write this, there is still no confirmation that the newest update (3.20) is the resolution to the issue. However, after installing the update on my 820, I was able to connect and add the device to Garmin Express. Seems to be operating normally. I had previously deleted and reinstalled GE on my Mac. FWIW.

Mine still won't connect with firmware 3.20 installed. This is extremely frustrating.

Exact same problem here. New 820 that I'm attempting to register through the newest version of Garmin Express.

I have 3.10 (my Connect doesn't show and update) and I tried the link (http://omt.garmin.com/) which worked successfully but still nothing in GE.

Also, can't connect to GE because of the 'Server' problem so I can't update or do anything there as my 820 isn't already registered.
  • Garmin knows its a bug.
This has happened twice to me as I accidentally bought the Garmin Edge Explore 820 first, then had to register the Edge 820 afterwards.
The first time the Garmin rep on the phone reset my connect password and dealt with it herself. The second time here is what I was instructed to do (it worked).

    1. Log in to Garmin connect on the web browser
    2. Click the 3 line tab on the top left
    3. Choose "Devices"
    4. Choose the device you are having issues with
    5. Click Save at the very bottom
    6. Plug device into the computer and attempt Garmin Express again

Hopefully this works for you, saving you time on hold with Garmin :p
