Garmin Express and FR70 Pairing

I have the same issue with an FR70. I contacted Garmin support and their reply was that the FR70 isn't compatible with GE and the problem will be resolved with further updates to GE.

I am now running GE 3.2.13.0 and the issue has not been resolved.

The serial number from your FR70 falls within the range of effected devices. These were reported to us as fixed in the database a couple of weeks ago. There was a Unknown Device associated with your myGarmin account which I removed. Please login to Garmin Connect and check the Devices menu on the left for any devices saved to Garmin Connect. If the FR70 or Unknown device is listed, click the small gear icon to the right and remove it. Make sure Express is up to date then try to add the FR70 again.

FR70 Problem communicating with the garmin servers

I just bought the FR70 but have had no luck connecting. Express is the most recent version.

I get a serial number but Message is "Problem communicating with the garmin servers"

I also shut the paring off and then on again. Same message

If this doesn't work then there seems to be no reason to keep the FR70.

    Deleted Express and re-installed
Took out ANT and put back in computer
    Set Pairing to Yes again

It finally connected and synced up after a few false starts

I worked in IT for 30 years
This convoluted software, weak documentation and fragile connections would not have been acceptable.
  • I've been on to phone tech support again for the upteenth time since GE was released. I will post any update as soon as I hear back from support.

Did support get the issue resolved?

Not yet. They asked me to submit a report via GE so I am waiting to hear back from them.

Update: Garmin Europe referred the problem to Garmin US. Garmin US say it has been solved but the device still shows as not being recognised. Garmin UK have reopened the case and I am awaiting updates from them. If the device cannot pair, they mentioned the option of sending it back to Garmin Europe.

One odd thing, Garmin Europe records show my FR70 as registered to a different email address. Either that or they were reading the wrong case as Garmin Europe could not find the case reference they gave me a week ago on their system.

As far as the database that controls all the compatibility between the device and Express, it is setup correctly. I'm leaning towards there being an issue with the data on the device or the device itself. I suggest you make sure that you remove all the old ANT Agent data from the computer then master reset the FR70.

    I. Delete the contents of the C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Devic es\
    • Press the Windows Key + R key together
    • Type this exactly, %Appdata%
    • Click OK
    • Open the Garmin folder
    • Open the Devices folder
    • Delete the numbered folder (unit id of the fitness device)

    Master Reset the FR70

If you continue to have troubles after this then the FR70 should be replaced. Garmin Europe will need to handle that for you.

Again I am sorry for the troubles.

  • Hi Curt,

    Thanks for the post.

I received an email from Garmn Europe with the following instructions: -

    1. Remove the contents of C:\ProgramData\Garmin ,

    2. Uninstall express

    3. Install the latest client from our website www.garmin.com/express

    4. Try to connect the unit couple of times

I will follow your advice first as it seems more logical and that there is a fault with the device or the settings.

    regards

    Hi Curt,

Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it.

I tried the steps you posted and still end up with the same result. I also followed the steps Garmin Europe asked me to take and again, the device still shows up as not being recognised by GE.

Looks like I'm gonna have to send it back to Garmin Europe.

Thanks again for all your help.

    regards
