I have downloaded Garmin Express and a installed it on my laptop (windows 7 home premium) the icon is on my desktop but when i attempt to open the logo appears then i get a message Garmin Express can't open Internet connection is being blocked . Try disabling you fire wall and proxy settings and open garmin express again. I have tried this turning of windows fire wall as well a my anti virus soft ware, even tried uninstalling the AV but still get the same message

Well it's something to do with your PC somewhere as the poster above you states. Not sure why you feel Garmin is to blame for that?

Hopefully the suggestions above do work for you.

I am here looking for help, not pointing fingers. Thank you for not helping.

My USB works fine. This error happens before the program even starts to detect my device.

That comment wasn't aimed at you :)

In that case start here http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId=%7Be908ee90-c6c1-11e1-dcef-000000000000%7D although I suspect marco's suggestion is more likely.

I am having exactly the same problem. i'd been having issues with syncing so uninstalled and reinstalled express and now I'm getting that same error message.
  • Same issue here. Win7, everything was fine until 4 or 5 days. And I changed NOTHING on my network or on my PC! I'm realy angry about the error text! The error message implies that the error exists in my network or on my computer. That took me a lot of time the last few days and now I find out the the error seems to be a problem of garmin?
Better fix this and when you work at it, also change the error message in something like "We have a problem right now, try again later ..." - so like thousands of other (better) online services do!

I feel that the software is to blame because I don't think it is unreasonable to expect it to work like all the other software which I have been installing on the new 8.1 machine. By providing flakey software Garmin is losing clients - I'll probably end up buying a new Satnav and if I do it wont be a Garmin if Express is their way forward..
  • Well clearly that's your choice but for most of us Express works fine. Yes, some people have issues and where they are proven to be a problem with Express they've generally been sorted quickly. I think you have to accpet that if it works on most people's PCs but not yours the issue is most likely somewhere on your system.

Having said that perhaps if you explained more fully what you've done, where the issue is and what error messages if any you're seeing the Express team (who are pretty active on this forum) may be able to help.

OK, the website and web updater worked ok from my PC. As I was typing this I noticed a new post from Garmin's Mike.
I tried this posted suggestion and it worked. Thank you mike for a fix that works for me. I hope it works for everyone having the issue.
I don't care for the, If this doesn't work your S.O.L., attitude. So another-words, don't get a Garmin anymore because you may not be able to use it on your PC.
  • Well it may not work for everyone having the issue as not all PCs are configured the same. I'm glad it worked for you and has resolved the issue on your PC. Might be interesting to see if your security software is the same as others having this problem :)
