Why do I get SC.exe pop-up when I start Win 7

This is relatively new problem for me. I get the annoying pop-up every time I start Win 7.

I traced it to Garmin Express. Is there a bug or is this a virus?

Stop the sc.exe from requesting permission to start the Garmin Core Update Service

    It worked for me!

Go to Settings, Control Panel, User Accounts, Turn the User Account Control ON or OFF

    Turn the UAC OFF, reboot

Go to Settings, Control Panel, User Accounts, Turn the User Account Control ON or OFF

Turn the UAC back ON, reboot

I tried many things offered up by Garmin Support. Nothing helped until I did the above.

Hope it works for you also.

    Running: Windows Vista
  • As posted by Brett above, the issue is a Windows User Account Control Issue but it can be worked around.

Strange PC action since installing Garmin Tools

Running Windows 7 OS. After purchasing Garmin Nuvi 50LM, installed Garmin Express, POI Loader, and GarminMapUpdater.exe.

Now, every time I cold start my PC ( from a power off state ), I get the following User Account Control message :

Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer ?
Program name : A tool to aid in developing services for Windows NT
    Verified Publisher : Microsoft Windows

When I click on show details : C:\windows\system32\sc.exe "Garmin Core Update Service"

How can I shut this message down ? Only started after downloading the mentioned Garmin files.
