GE keeps dropping out and displaying error when trying to update maps......

Okay.... BRAND NEW PC WIn11 with latest updates. BRAND NEW install of GE..... updates available for my Drive 52..... keeps dropping out when trying to download the updated maps.... gets to about 7% MAX!!! then ERROR!!!! This has happened 12-3 times this past 24hours.........,...

Okay, I had same issue with Zumo XT but then allowed the Zumo to uipdate NOT thru GE and it worked.... GE has a serious issue!

Come on Garmin get your act together!

  • Make that 16-18 times now!!!!!

  • I had exactly the same problem yesterday.  I'm completely ignorant of technical matters with computers.  I kept trying without success so, I shut down my computer.  Waited for over an hour, rebooted, opened up GE and tried again.  Success!  Probably luck, but I got the 'Installation successful' message and although I haven't used it on a journey yet all the functions in the menu seem to be working.  I called up a route I'd saved and it brought up the map without a hitch.

  • Review the thread at installation-error---solved and see if DeepL could be the issue.

  • Yup, it would appear that GE v7.20.0.0 released only yesterday is a culprit here - am experiencing exactly the same problems (and never did before really) trying to get my nuvicam & its EU maps updated to the latest release (2025.10). Will check what installation logs say later.

All in all I'd suggest awaiting revised GE release that surely will follow soon...

  • THANK YOU!!!! That makes the most sense..... where is the QC? I wish I had not updated.....

Thanks all. The DeepL answer is a red herring complete waste of time.

  • In answer to your question: nihil novi sub sole. We've been there before and I can say that when I experience such dubious 'installation errors' it's usually GE that's at fault - I never have any connectivity problems, don't use VPN etc.

Interestingly but perhaps it's just me getting old: I think the download folder (usually: C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads) has either been cleaned up by GE updating itself to the latest version earlier today, or GE now handles downloads somewhat differently as it's suspiciously empty...?

Also curiously: GE - when download is restarted (it does fail around 7% mark for me as well) does seem to restart download process afresh, from the beginning - whereas in the past it used to pick up from where it got to with previous attempts. Interesting...

  • Yes, I see same....

Now, to address the elephant in the room..... I reckon Garmin are trying to deprecate older SatNav systems and push their product line to "self updating" units (by that I mean, units that have wireless connection).... that would entail 1) more sales 2) less support 3) defined areas of update support 4) CONTROL! And, why has G blatantly disregarded USB "C" in these past few years? Planned, deliberate, decisions to make units obsolescent. They had the technology 4 years back and continued to build/manufacture older technology.

I had a very old Garmin 75 handheld unit (1992/3??) Loved it. Garmin were the NEW kid on the block, better than Leica, SiTex, Ratheon (now RayMarine)... I had a GPS215D (with the old differential system!!!!) Garmin WERE good....... as a result I am now disillusioned and can only see these companies as a greed induced bunch.

  • Well, after 24 hours, 15+attempts, the SatNavs are finally updated. I used a version 7.19.00 and, even though it was a slow as molasses in January, they finally updated (a Nuvi 2445 - EU and a Drive 52 - UK & Ireland)... but it took 24hous to finally get the "uninterrupted" updates to successfully complete.

  • Yup, same here (Blessed is the one who perseveres...) - I've had around 10 takes to get this task over the fence to its completion, including stalled transfer to the device at some stage (and the message I never saw earlier saying that maps are corrupt or something akin...!).

Maps are now correctly installed on both my nuvicam and PC - but am eager to see updated GE that will spare me repeat of this exercise...
