Sorry, we're having a problem communicating with our servers

I don't use Garmin Express all that often (I sync with the android app), but when the connect website tells me there's an update I'll fire up express.

For about a week now I've been unable to use Garmin Express, both the Mac version at work and the Windows version at home are giving me the

above statement. I have reinstalled Express on windows maybe 5 minutes ago because one Forum post here suggested that it helped them in the past;

alas, no such luck for me.

Any other thoughts?

  • My PC is totally updated to 22H2.. I wanted Garmin to send me an old version of the Garmin Express software so that I could check functionality with it. Since you have Garmins ear can you ask them for that? It would be a fast check to see if their software is the issue. If they don't get a handle on this they will have a LOT of devices sent back!

  • I have folders at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Application that I was once told yield the older versions of GE.  I'm a bit reluctant to test as I have a working GE 7.17.3.0.  You have to drill down a bit further, ultimately to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Application\Application_Application.express-windows.7.17.3.0\omt\express\windows\7.17.3.0\4cdf4f51522ed1fbad7d1d34315c473a to get to what is called "express installer".  That long string in the path may vary PC to PC.

  • Hey guys I got it to work. I uninstalled Express and then did a search on C: for " *garmin* ". There were a lot of left over artifacts so I deleted them all. After a reinstall I was able to add my Forerunner 35 and Edge 1030 with no issue. I synced them both and didn't get the error. Thanks Bill Gates! This reminded me of when I used to build PCs with DOS and had to do stuff like set up device drivers and assign IRQs. The hours I spent trying to figure out WTF was causing me issues. HA! Let me know if this works for you.

  • Hey djdfdfjljd, you figured it out! I was going with the idea that Revo Uninstaller would catch all the folders, but it obviously didn't. I did the search of C: as well and came across Garmin files in the following folders (where there is a Garmin Folder, I tossed it along with the files):
    C:\ProgramData\Garmin
    C:\Windows\Prefetch
    C:\Users\steve\AppData\Local\Garmin
    C:\Users\steve\AppData\Local\Temp (for this one, I just cleared the whole thing out, since they are temp files)
    C:\Users\steve\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Garmin

    After pitching those files and directories, I installed again. It authenticated, loaded my fēnix 6 Pro, and is now updating the maps on it! Woohoo! During my recent searches for this, I have seen many posts about it going years back, but no one, including the support person I was chatting with, had the idea of clearing all Garmin folders/files off of the system drive. Hopefully others down the road will find this thread and save themselves some grief. :)

  • Glad to see it worked for you too Steven, I was a Technical Account Manager for Hewlett Packard Enterprise before I retired and this was the kind of stuff I was wrapped up in all the time. It was kind of fun (and frustrating) figuring it out but I'll take a relaxing retirement to daily head banging any day :-D Stephen from PA...

  • I had the same issue with Garmin Express version 7.17.3.0. I uninstalled and reinstalled it several times with the same error communicating with the servers.  I was able to find an older version of Garmin Express 7.16.3.0 on my computer and installed that and it works fine. There definitely seems to be a bug in the newest version.

  • As I mentioned earlier, you might be able to find older versions of GE on your PC at a path similiar to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Application\Application_Application.express-windows.7.17.2.0\omt\express\windows\7.17.2.0\144e1263726f5b47fec0006f3eb9fa41.  That is where my previous versions seem to be stored.  Having said that I generally remove the older versions, keeping the last two.
