I have the latest version of Garmin Express (it updated today) on a Windows 7 SP1 laptop. I have a Nuvi 40 GPS, and want to update the maps. Garmin Express tells me updates are available, and will take 3 hours. As soon as the update starts, it appears to stall -- the download speed falls steadily, while the project time-to-complete climbs. I take this to be a sign that data is not arriving. The percentage complete moves incrementally but always stops at 0.5%. After about 15 minutes the download speed and time-to-complete stop updating, and in another 5 minutes or so it announces that an error has occurred. It makes no difference if I try to store the update on the computer or the Nuvi (I have a 32GB microSD in it). I had my ISP monitor my connection (I was told maybe that is the problem) -- during download it shows I am drawing at 5.4 mb/s, but it never gets beyond 0.5% complete. Tech support at Garmin tells me they can't offer any suggestions. Does anyone else have any ideas? Thanks.
Not sure but this might be similar to what I'm seeing with my Fenix 5+. When I'm looking to update my 5+ maps there is an option to look at the details of what's being updated. I was able to individually select each update and have them installed. There was one left cpyright.txt. Every time I selected this one, the install failed.
Sussamb -- I ran through the FAQ. I tried installing on the computer only (199GB free) and the Nuvi card only (29.7GB free); I believe the map files are under 3GB. I have checked and double-checked the download speed -- when I check it from a browser it is around 5.8 Mbps; when I had my ISP check it while Garmin Express was attempting to retrieve the maps it was was 5.4 Mbps. I reboot the laptop daily. This is not a connection/bandwidth issue. I tried it with Bitdefender disabled, it made no difference. What's next?
How much free space is on your device? Also have you tried using a different usb port? This FAQ although not directly relevant has some additional points to check:
Trippy -- I removed, re-downloaded, and then installed Garmin Express. The version I removed was 6.10.0.0; the one I downloaded and installed today was 6.9.1.0. After installing it, a dialog box popped up that said a newer version (6.10.0.0) was available. I declined (although that didn't make the dialog box go away) and proceeded to attempt the map update (which now estimated it would take about 1.5 hours; in the past it has always estimated it at 3 hours). Things went better -- it reported 0.6% complete before stalling. (By my estimate, that should be about 14K but no files appeared on the microSD.) I guess I shouldn't be surprised -- when I registered so that I could post in this forum, I recieved three (3!) email notifications to activate my account. However, when I used the link in the emails, Garmin responded with a message that said it couldn't register me because the website URL was wrong. It was only after I clicked on the website's link to provide a new ID that I was able to register. Which OS are you running on, and which version of Garmin Express? (And I just attempted to post this and was told I don't have permission ...)
Sussamb -- I went to my account profile, selected the Account tab, and the PM box was unchecked. Checked it, clicked on Save changes, tried to send a PM and was told it was disabled. Went back to the profile -- sure enough, the box is unchecked again. I have tried this several times now ...
Sussamb -- this is off-topic except that it's preventing me from addressing the issue -- changing my profile to allow PMs doesn't save, even though I click on Save Changes. I see that someone in the vBCms forum posted a message to that effect earlier today. I'm attaching a screenshot that shows where I attempted to make the change.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1429060.jpg
