Garmin express sync failure

Been having issues with my forerunner 610 and garmin express failing to sync for a few days.
The laptop picks up the watch ok via the ant+ usb device, but I just get repeated red flag saying "there was an eror syncing with garmin connect".
Running windows 10.
Have tried uninstalling the garmin software and reloading it, didnt help.
Any ideas anyone?
  • I have the same issue since several months while trying to USB cable sync my fenix 5x to pc on win10. (both home and work pc). On the other hand automatic wifi sync doesn't work either. Bluetooth has been working, luckily, so I've been waiting the end of the season with the issue to try to RMA or something...

    Ditto here with an Edge Explore 1000 since 17 November. Running Win10 x64 and latest Express. Every time I try to sync, Garmin Express gives me a msg saying "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect". So far I have tried a) uninstalling Garmin Express and re-installing from a fresh download of the latest version. Made no difference. b) deleted all the fit files in the activities folder on the 1000, recorded a short ride, and tried to upload it. Same problem as before. Any suggestions on a fix?

    I just want to let everyone know that I had the same issue as described above and the solution of post #10 by mcgregoraa solved it for me. It was caused by an incomplete file (ride) that was upload. Cleared out the folders as described in post #10 and everything was back to normal!
  • I see there are over 1500 views for this thread, guess that means this is a big problem for lots of people. I've had sync issues on and off for years using Garmin Express.
    I would open Windows "Event Viewer" and check in "Custom Views" and "Administrative Events" and look for these errors: 1000, 1026, 1530, 7000, 7009 and 7031 and see if they are related to Garmin Express. These errors will cause a number of different issues with GE working properly. I went back to using Version 5.4.0.0 (you can find it here http://gawisp.com/perry/garmin_uilities/ ) and I don't seem to get these errors anymore and it solved all my sync issues.

    Same issue with the sync error.

    I manage to get one good sync ('Sync complete!' in green) after deleting one specific file:

    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Devices\0123456789\Sync\FIT_TYPE_41\CHNGLOG.FIT

    This is a binary file, you thus only see garbage in a text editor.

    After the initial successful sync all following syncs will fail.

    I am not willing to delete random files from my watch or to reset everything, still waiting for some official GARMIN feedback!!!

    This issue seems to affect thousands of people and should be resolved by the software itself! Until the BUG is fixed an official work-around by Garmin is needed!
