Getting Garmin Purchased Map onto Basecamp

I have several Garmin maps which I have purchased directly from Garmin and which are loaded onto my Garmin GPSMAP 64s. They are working just fine.

However, I would like to have these maps also available on Basecamp. But, they seem to be only available in Basecamp when I have the Garmin unit physically connected to my computer. How can I "copy" these maps to my computer's copy of Basecamp so they will be available even when my Garmin unit is not attached?.....RDK
  • BC will read any .img file from a stick/card, provided it's in a folder named Garmin, at least I haven't discovered a map yet that it won't.

Getting Garmin Purchased Map onto Basecamp

SUSSAMB....OK, maybe I'm the idiot that proves your law or there is something different between the two maps I bought in July and the one I bought in January??

Is it possible Garmin have implemented some sort of new registration/encryption algorithm which prevents me from simply copying the IMG file to a SD card and allowing Basecamp to read it?

I'm more than willing to provide you with an image of the SD card with the January map it will read and one from July (Hawaii) that it will not read....RDK

Here is an update on this issue. In an offline collaboration with SUSSAMB we have determined that the Basecamp installation on my laptop was corrupted. As when I installed Basecamp on another computer all of the maps loaded correctly.

I have no idea how or why that installation was corrupted.

Now I have to figure out how to collect all of the tracks, etc on the corrupted version and move them to the other computer and the working version...RDK
  • Simply copying the folders and files from the Basecamp database in the problem PC to the new one would work, or do a backup from the File button on the toolbar then Restore the backup on the new one.

OK, I did the "backup and restore" as suggested, and IT WORKED!!! I was concerned that a backup of the corrupted install and restore to the other PC new would bring along the "corruption". However, it worked flawlessly. Thanks for the help.....RDK
