will not interface with Google Earth

I installed Google Earth Pro on both my desktop and laptop PCs. Using View > Google Earth from BC 4.4.7 works great from Desk but gets "install Google Earth" from Laptop. Both are running Win 7-64, Intel I5. Both have same version of GEP. GEP launches and operates perfectly. So why can't BaseCamp find it?

    It's busted (it's a bug).

It seems the only way Basecamp knows Earth is installed is if Basecamp is installed after Google Earth. It appears that it has to have Earth (just Earth Pro doesn't work).

It works if you run Earth (or Earth Pro) outside of Basecamp. That is some indication that what Basecamp isn't doing properly would be easy to fix.

Interesting! This explains the Desktop vs Laptop issue. On the Desktop I had installed GE long ago then recently installed BC then GE Pro. On the laptop just the opposite GE Pro then BC then GE.

If it's running, basecamp find the name in the running process list.
If it's not running, it has to know where the file is on the disk. It's this part that isn't really working properly.

I have both GE and GE Pro installed as suggested in another thread. Even when I start GE or GEP, then start BC, I get the same error message of GE not installed when using the View tab.
  • Have you tried an uninstall then reinstall of BC?

This still isn't fixed; doesn't work whether GEp is open or not.

I don't see how this should be so difficult to fix, in all honesty. A simple "point to googleearth.exe" options dialogue would suffice, at least. (I use a few programs with such options; makes it pretty foolproof.)

It appears you need the regular Google Earth installed. With that installed, you can use the Pro version.

I had to uninstall both GE Pro and regular GE and then download and install a fresh copy of GE v7.1.5

Then I have to have GE open and running and then both BaseCamp and MapSource will send tracks directly to GE.

If GE is not open and running I get the error code "GE is not installed".
  • If GE is not open and running I get the error code "GE is not installed".

What Basecamp 4.5.1.1 says is "This feature requires Google Earth to be installed and running. Please launch Google Earth, then try again".
