Highway Avoidance NOT

I've got all of them checked to avoid: Interstates, Highways, etc. Yet it puts me on major highways when I calculate a route. Am I doing something wrong, or is the software funky?? thanks

I finally figured it out (I think~) You have to make sure the middle of the top on PROPERTIES tab does not say NONE. I thought if "Use Activity Profile" in ROUTE OPTIONS tab was checked, that would work. You've got to set up PROPERTIES correctly. That was obvious (NOT). !

Talking to myself here... I sure THOUGHT I had it, but I did another calculation and I'm back on the highway where I don't want to be... :(

Assuming you have the default activity profile set to, say, Driving, this will only affect a newly created route. Any existing route can be set to something else in the Route Properties window. THEN you can customize that activity or create a new one and set it up as you wish. You can also customize any activity profile in the drop-down list in the menu, IF you have View-> Toolbars->Activity Profiles checked.

However, BC is notorious for not following what any normal person would expect after checking avoidances in any given profile. To say it is funky is quite an understatement..... AND, every different device interprets the avoidances differently.

There are only two ways to get beyond this. Either put in a bunch of via points to force the route to your desire and see if your device will follow it as uploaded, or convert it to a track and forgo all the navigation prompts. Having fought this battle for five years I generally only use auto-routing in the truck or on the road bike. For dirt and back roads I have gone almost entirely to tracks. BUT, I use Topos 99% of the time for back roads and mine don't auto-route anyway.
  • It's also going to depend on which map you've selected in BaseCamp and how whoever made that map defined the roads. If the map is categorised correctly then avoidances work as you would expect.

I'm using the Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2015.4... when I use my Nuvi I'm never put on major highways. Basecamp just got an update, maybe that will help. Never used a track, I'm only wanting to avoid highways...
  • Don't worry about tracks as your nuvi can't read them. I can't see the update changing anything, it's more likely that somehow you haven't set the avoidances correctly, especially if it works on your nuvi and not in BC.

Thanks... I can't see how avoidances aren't set correctly- it's pretty straigtforward (it seems!) You're right, the update fixed nothing (including inability to see Google Earth).
  • Something's wrong with your installation then as GE seems fine to me. Had an issue a while back after a GE update. Cured that by deleting both BC and GE then reinstalling them both.

For avoidances. Ensure CN NA map is selected in BC. Ensure you've entered the avoidance in the activity profile you're using. Create the route. If it's still not working can you post start and finish points and if possible a screen grab of BC with the route showing?

You could also try creating a route with the standard driving profile. Once you've done that open the route properties (right click the route in lower left pane and select Open or double click the route). Now select the Route Options tab and select 'Customise route options'. As you click the various options the route should recalculate after each one and you'll see what effect those avoidances are having.

It was tricky to attach images, but hope these help. And I did uninstall Google Earth Pro, installed Google Earth, and the new update of BC was installed today.
    THANKS
  • Considering you've ticked all the avoidances I suspect the issue is that there is no other option left. I'd try unticking a few as per my post above (open route properties and uncheck one at a time to see the result).

BC will try to adhere to your options but if you leave it with no choice it has to pick something :)

You've also inserted quite a few viapoints, this will also limit the choice BC has.
