when i turn .net off and manually remove all garmin folders then turn .net back on and reinstall basecamp it works but then i close basecamp and it will not restart
  • Not the device, only data in BC. It doesn't matter what I have selected--a list, a folder, or "My Collection", I'm sorting the data shown in the lower left pane, i.e. the contents of what I have selected above. It defaults to being sorted by Symbol. I always want it sorted by Name. So first thing after opening BC, I sort that pane by Name using the gear icon at the top right of the lower pane. It stays that way as long as I use BC until I close the app. Then re-opening BC, that pane is always again sorted by symbol, and I have to re-sort it by Name again. (BC 4.4.6, Win 8.1, 2013.2)

So JM, were you able to duplicate the issue I'm seeing, or is it just me, something about my computer that is causing this?
  • I am wondering if it is a Windows 8 related issue. I'll keep you posted.
  • We can repro on Windows 8. I have opened a case.

To anyone that might concern, as of v4.6.6 BaseCamp is STILL NOT able to export any decent KML files.
I am attaching simple file to reproduce the problems. You can also create your own drawing 3 tracks with Red, Green and Blue colors.
Import the Test.GPX file in Basecap, then export to KML and notice the following problems:
    a) KML file is missing the line <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> at the beginning, which makes it NOT work with most other KML software. The GPX exports all have this first line, none of the KML export do. Why?
    b) Even after adding <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, the KML is still NOT compatible with BASECAMP itself! Try to import the exported KML back in Basecamp and it will fail to do so.
    c) Opening the KML in Google Earth or Google Maps ALL the track/route colors are WRONG. They use RRGGBB color coding for the colors when they should be using BBGGRR. The only one that works properly, probably because hardcoded, is the default route color MAGENTA.

I understand the KML export functionality may not be critical for Garmin, but it should not be very difficult to have KML export work properly.
  • Thank you for the feedback and the test data. I have opened a case for this.
  • The only one that works properly, probably because hardcoded, is the default route color MAGENTA

That's because the color code for magenta is FF00FF.... Green (00FF00), black (000000), grey (C0C0C0) and white (FFFFFF) should work properly too ;)
