BaseCamp 4.4.4 Is Now Available

So, JM, just curious, do you know yet whether the fix of the straight-line problem corrects the issue seen on some devices (660 Srs Zumo's mostly I think) where they spontaneously recalc a route created in the previous BC version while it's being ridden? And is the advice to 660 owners to use MapSource "for the moment" (your words I think) to resolve the issue, now retracted, and 660 users can go back to BaseCamp for route planning?

This is strictly a BaseCamp related fix. Devices are not affected. The MapSource advice to which you refer still holds for Zumo 600 series users.

Downloaded, installed, opened problem route, recalculated - no straight lines.

I can't answer for JM but I'm not sure the spontaneous recalc issue is related to the straight-line routing issue. The spontaneous recalc problem some Zumo 660s have had predated the straight-line routing problem, which only showed up in a fairly recent Basecamp version. Although I have read about the spontaneously recalc issue on this forum and others I have never experienced a spontaneous recalc with my 660 with hundreds of routes over more than 30k miles. I'm involved with a rider org with probably a hundred plus 660's/665's and no one has experienced that particular issue, so I don't think it's a universal problem. Some 66Xs are certainly having an issue with routes created in Basecamp yet handle routes created in Mapsource fine.

You are correct. The recalc issue and the straight line issue are unrelated completely.

But an old issue is still there:

Issue: BaseCamp 4.3.3 recalculating an existing route, using the same map, is creating a longer route, having duplicate route segments and sometimes loops.

This is a newly created Route (used for testing straight lines) and consists of two via points only. Route reverses back on its own trail.
The second and last via-point is not regarded as last via-point by BaseCamp. So Route extension (by [Insert]) is not possible.

This is one of the same locations where the straight lines issue did occur. Straight line route was identical to the current black [Insert] line.
Issue is related to map being used: OpenStreetMap, more specific OpenFietsMap. Not to be reproduced on "OSM generic routable". Not to be reproduced on "City Navigator Europe NT 2008".

The issue is not to be reproduced in MapSource.

So maybe a map rather than Basecamp issue?

We have a case open for this. It did not make it into this release. We are aware however of the issue.

Here we are in late November 2014 and, despite the multiples releases in the meantime, it *still* doesn't work properly.

Could you post the open route dialog as well for the route in this picture? Would you be able to accomplish what you are trying to do using shaping points?
