Would anyone having the straight-line issue be willing to share with me your GPX file of that route? Also the map you are using would be helpful.

Please e-mail to [email protected]

Your information will be kept private.

Thank you!

I would, if I knew how to do it in Basecamp. Mapsource was easy. But sent a snip showing it.
• Thanks to all that sent data. We have what we need! And we are tracking it down!
• Sorry ??? till this week no effort was put into this problem?

(not personally meant to you, but it sounds like that there was no effort at all in solving this problem till this week).

If I create a new route, it also happens. Not only with older routes.
• No. We have been working on it. We wanted some test data. Something more representative of what we are seeing in the field to be sure that this gets fixed properly.
• A zumo 550? That is intended for motorcycle use.

I've been told BaseCamp no longer supports my Zummo 660. I find it strange Garmin would even be spending time fixing anything to do with BaseCamp-Zummo 550 compatibility?? The 550 is even older than the 660. I was told to start go back to using Mapsource with my 660......
• I don't believe the issue is Basecamp, which works with pretty much every other Garmin GPS ... the problem lies with the Zumo range, it's probably a device issue therefore and not Basecamp. However what the problem is I have no idea, but apparently Mapsource will work
• A. U-Turns:

1. as far as I can see 'avoid u-turns' is of no use within basecamp. As said above: as long as there are novia's there is no reason to use u-turns.
2. if there are via's BC sees the route as a total of sub-sroutes. If a route goes from A to B to C a u-turn at B unfortunaltely is always allowed. It would be a major improvement if BC would avoid u-turns at via's as well
3. I have NEVER seen in ANY Zumo that a BC route was altered after import in the device; adding U-turns. I feel there must be something else causing this problem

B. curvy roads
When can we expect 'curvy roads' to be improved?. Currently it very often uses highways; in general too high roadclasses. E.g.: make a route from Amsterdam to Rotterdam: the result hs nothing to do with 'curvy roads'. Road classes used should be much much lower.

C. round trip
Can we expect a roundtrip feature in Basecamp; like used in the edge1000 ans zumo590? Would be a nice option.

That could very well be. After sending Garmin several examples over the course of almost a year of the spontaneous recalc issue in my 660, even with recalc set to off, they finally gave up, said something about not updating the 660 firmware anymore, and said go back to using Mapsource, (the program they also no longer support or have updated for years). I'm not even sure my lifetime maps will continue to update in Mapsource?? I agree that it's probably a Zummo firmware issue.

If I knew which version of Basecamp broke being able to use my Zumo 660 with Basecamp I could go back and use the previous version. Garmin won't even tell me the answer to that question. This issue crops up miles into multi-hundred mile routes so it's not something I'm going to figure out easily by trial and error. They probably don't know when it broke as their software development team has a hard enough time putting out new versions of Basecamp which don't create more issues than they solve! Their abilities to problem solve don't instill much confidence in my book.

As you can tell, I'm not very happy with my investment in Garmin or the software and support they provide......

When performing a map update simply use the Advanced Option to install maps to your "Computer and Device". MapSource can then use the maps.

I still use MapSource and have been doing this for years.

If you prefer to use BC plan your route(s) in it, open up MapSource as well, copy'n'paste your route(s) from BC to MS, recalculate them in MS and then send them to your Zumo. Really, it's not that hard.

I've been using Mapsource for years too and am now proficient using both programs. I resisted moving to Basecamp, but was told by Garmin that Basecamp was the replacement for Mapsource and that Basecamp would be supported with my Zummo 660. I spent the time learning Basecamp and consolidated .gdb files from 15 years worth of Mapsource files into Basecamp. Then I'm told to go back to Mapsource.

It's not a matter of what I can or cannot do, or how easy it is. I've already considered the 'work around' you've suggested. It's more to the point of why Garmin can't support their hardware as advertised by their own support staff. My guess is they didn't even realize they were developing changes in Basecamp which would create issues with the older Zummos. When they asked me for examples files I supplied them. When I heard nothing back I asked for an update. That's when I get the news that Basecamp and the Zummo 660 no longer get along and I should move back to Mapsource. It' a matter of below par support and development from a company I used think pretty highly of. Not any more......
