Windows 7; Just installed Basecamp version 4.4.1 and now get a 'Basecamp has encountered an error accessing the Windows registry' 'contact Garmin support' when I try to send a route to the NAV 5 GPS. Uninstalled and then reinstalled and same problem. What to do????

Thank you so much for the warning. I have the NAV 5 too. I was just planning to go on a trip so I'll not update. Old one 4.3.5 is working fine.

Thank you for the suggestion. An uninstall/reinstall did not fix the issue. I also have a Windows 7 laptop. Tried an install - same problem. I did an uninstall/reinstall on the Windows 7 machine - no help, same error and same result. I went ahead and logged it as a problem with the Garmin support team.

As an update, the Garmin Product Support folks sent me the following today:

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International and I would be happy to assist.

We will have an update for Basecamp in the next 48 hours to address this.

That being said you can reset Basecamp to resove the issue also.

    1.Open BaseCamp
2.Click Edit in the menu bar
    3.Click Options
4.Select the General icon in the left column
5.Click the Reset button in the Reset Options section

Click Ok when it prompts to reset all BaseCamp options...."

Just remember that if you use the fix above, it resets any user changed preferences to the default settings.

So, looks like we'll have a fix before the weekend. My thanks to the developers for the quick resolution. An occasional glitch with a program so rich in functionality is understandable, even if frustrating. Overall, I'm one who applauds the BaseCamp team for continuing to improve and enrich the functionality of the program.

general reset avoids windows registry bug

I installed 4.4.1 recently when prompted by Basecamp. I now get the same 'problems accessing windows registry' problem message as others below in this forum. I have Windows 7.1. Basecamp abends with the same message below. I was attempting to copy waypoints to my Garmin GPSMAP 62stc. I found that I can create new waypoints from the find POI service in 4.4.1 as long as I am already pointing to the internal storage of the 62stc.
If you want me to try to uninstall/reinstall how do I do that as Basecamp update is all I have used so far?
    Thanks
Later on I saw more posts so tried reset as suggested. It works for me - can now copy new waypoints to my 62stc. I look forward to the new version eventually.
  • I think if you read the above there's no mention of an uninstall/reinstall ... just a question of resetting Basecamp to default. Follow the post above yours ...

    Hi to all,

I tried to install BC 4.4.1 version, but failed. The extractor worked 5 seconds, after this stopped at all. No Garmin processes in the task manager
    at all.

And unfortunately, after this operation the previously installed BC 4.3.5 did not work as well.
Clean install (windows uninstall + manually deleted BC folder + reinstall from original BC441.exe) did not help.
    No BC at all.

Any suggestions how to solve this prob?

    config: Win 7 64 bit, i 5, 8 MB RAM

Any new suggestions on this prob?

PS: BTW, Mapsource 6.13 is working properly.
