BaseCamp 4.4.0.1 BETA is now available and can be downloaded here:

http://garmindeveloper.com/apps/BC/BaseCampBeta_4.4.0.1.exe

This release does not support XP.

You do not have to uninstall BaseCamp 4.3.5 and it will not overwrite that installation. The BETA and an official release of BaseCamp will live side-by-side but must be used separately.

Below is a list of changes. This is only a BETA release.

• Added notification that eligible devices can install maps on the desktop using Garmin Express
• Added ability to create and manage areas to avoid while routing
• Added properties (and shading) for public land survey types
• Added progress bar in the data list for downloading BirdsEye
• Added progress bar on the BirdsEye wizard for downloading BirdsEye
• Added way to activate BirdsEye subscriptions within BaseCamp
• Added ability to go back on the BirdsEye wizard dialog and select a new area (subscription only)
• Added option to disable imagery display in the map views
• Added some additional waypoint symbols to be more consistent with newer nuvi and zumo devices
• Added Duplicate List and Contents menu option
• Added a column in the data list for waypoint category name
• Added map context menu option to search for the most recently used search category
• Improved response time when populating the list of Birdseye providers
• Changed how nearest area results are displayed on the map when hovering
• Changed to ask if the waypoint should be shared between routes when splitting a route
• Changed to preserve the settings in the print page settings dialog
• Fixed problem with marine heights being displayed incorrectly
• Fixed issues when reading GPX files that contain invalid times
• Fixed odd rendering on newer City Navigator maps
• Fixed issues with inconsistent track stats

Post here if you have questions.

The BETA is currently only for English users.

Before using this release, back up your data.

Please post any bugs you may find here. This release is to assist us in testing with a wider user base and wider set of devices. Bugs may be present, and any feedback is welcomed.

Again, thank you for all who participate.
  • Installed fine last night, created a new DB 44 alongside 43 automatically with full copy of everything. Now that I've made edits to 4.4 tracks, waypoints guess I'll continue using it. Still consuming a LOT of memory, max was just under 3GB and slows down after a while just like v43. Close down, restart seems to help but memory climbs rapidly again from ~400MB start. Will try other features soon.

~400MB, while somewhat large, is not outside the realm of normal for BaseCamp. 3GB however seems excessive.

Would you be willing to share us your steps in it getting that high? And possibly some data so that we may investigate?

The link has been fixed. Thank you for letting us know.
  • Had a chance now to play with this beta, a few observations:

Additional waypoint symbols still don't include those on the recent nuvis. Don't know if it would be possible but if so it would be useful if the user could select from a set of symbols appropriate to the device they are using?

Unable (as far as I can tell) to rename avoidance areas. Would also be good to be able to nominate sections of roads to avoid rather than just areas?

Adding the avoidance tool. As already posted, having enabled it you need to restart Basecamp to be able to see it, perhaps include a warning to this effect as per the warning you get when you change databases? It also messed up the Basecamp toolbar layout.

Postcode search still doesn't work correctly. Hit Ctrl + Alt + F then select Addresses. Put in a number and a postcode, which is all that's required to find an address in the UK, and hit search. No address is found and you'll see Basecamp on the next box has placed the postcode into the street field, which explains why it's not found!
  • Just downloaded and installed this beta, if i put in a UK postcode in the search field on the top right of the screen it finds the place.

If i hit ctrl+alt+f then select Addresses and put in the postcode in the postcode field it finds noting, it actually splits the postcode in two parts.
I used SO40 9LR (Garmin UK postcode), SO40 end up in the House number field and 9LR end up in the street field.....With version 4.3.5 the same happens.

Now i close Basecamp (beta) and open it again, hit CTRL+ALT+F, select address, copy/paste "SO40 9LR" in the postcode field and hit search. The same happens, it splits the postcode and finds notting. Now, leave the window open and clear the street number and street field, put "SO40 9LR" in the postcode field again, now hit the little refresh icon above the blue quistionmark it finds 12 addresses.....
  • My experience too, placing the postcode in the top right search box works OK but that's not the full address, for which you need the number.

Hadn't tried just putting the postcode only in the Address box but get the same as you, first part of postcode put into number field, second part into street field ... it's certainly not working properly :)
  • Just tried the same with my own postcode and it does the same, the postcode ends up in the street field.
when i empty the street field and put the postcode in the postcode field again, than hit refresh, it finds my address.
