When creating routes in bascamp, route uses nearby roads and not paths

Hi,

Got a real problem with Basecamp. When I now create a route for walking, the route automatically uses nearby roads regardless of the fact that the activity is set for Hiking. I even tried Mountaineering and it still routed me on the road.

I've created a few routes before and they were fine, so something has changed and for the life of me I can't see how to correct it. Any ideas apart from shouting at the screen :)?

PS I have Garmin GB Discoverer maps loaded onto my GPS and am using these via Basecamp to create the route. Creating the route on the GPS also gives me the same problem
  • I'm afraid I don't own you device. I'm not sure what you mean when "open it on the map". Here on some suggestions. First if you are viewing it on the map, try to start navigation of the route instead. Setting to Off Road should prevent automatic re-routing. I'm not sure where this would be on your device. Try looking under the Calculate Routes For under Set-up>Routing. If there is something that looks like Off Route Recalculation or Recalculation of any kind, try setting that to off. Also, there may be something under Recalculate Routes For that may set all parameters correctly for direct routing.

Hopefully an Oregon owner will chime in and help you set-up the device correctly.

On my Oregon 450 if you want point-to-point vs "follow the road/trail" routes you use Direct. As I said some older models use "Off Road" for that while some use it for 4WD/ATV/etc roads.

To put it another way referring to "Off Road" routes can be misleading which is why I use "point-to-point" or "as the crow flies" instead.
