  • BaseCamp shows the RV settings on the Lenovo but currently not showing them on the Dell Both have Win 8.1 but Lenovo is 8.1 Pro
  • I have BC 4.3.1 installed on a Dell Inspiron win 8.1 and the program loads at a reduced size then when clicking to maximize it goes to another minimize size. Then when you click to maximize it fills the screen. However, the font is small. Then when double clicking on a route or waypoint the font changes to a larger size on the tool bars and in the file window pane
  • I haven't been able to reproduce this.... I will check on my Windows 8 machine at home. Did it just not remember your 4.2.5 placement or does it never remember your placements and sizes from run-to-run of 4.3?

It never remembers...even if you maximize the window before doing anything it will eventually change...I can't find a common cause to make it happen but just click around on anything, also the size of the text is very small and when you move the mouse over the library list the text shrinks even smaller until you move off of it, once BC magically expands, the type becomes the correct size

I'll just add a few observations of my experiences on two win-7 Pro x64 systems. One the desktop and one the laptop.
I am preparing the laptop for a trip away, so was carrying out a bunch of updates. I suppose I can say the Basecamp updates were less painful that Garmin Express.

This was a day or two ago, and both systems were only offered 4.2.5 as an upgrade, but I noticed 4.3.1 on the garmin download area so I downloaded it.
The update to 4.2.5 from within basecamp failed on the desktop because, at the time cryptolocker surfaced, I had configured the system policies to block execution out of zip temporary folders.

I downloaded 4.3.1 for both systems.
On the desktop I needed to manually unzip everything somewhere else in order to be able to execute the bootstrapper installer program, so I was not too surprised when the missing MVCRT90.DLL error popped up. I simply uninstalled 4.2.3 and then reinstalled 4.3.1. It worked without any messing around with deleting folders, etc. (I had not read about those instructions at that time).

On the laptop I successfully installed 4.3.1 over 4.2.5, without any MSVCRT90.DLL problem.

    Other issues:

    Help files:
There are none. I click on Help->Help and it takes me to a URL which replies 'file not found"'. The url is http://static.garmincdn.com/basecamp/4_3/en/Default.htm
Even when this is fixed, it will be pretty useless, as most of the time I will be out of internet coverage.
I really need help files to be installed with the program.

    Custom databases
These get ignored. So the new version starts up with only the default db, which was very old and had almost nothing in.
On one system I copied user.config under %APPDATA%\Local\GARMIN_Copr\Basecamp.exe_Url_blahblah from 4.2.5 to 4.3.1 (the new one was in a new basecamp folder, presumably because it was a new install, even though it was an upgrade. Before doing this I tried the "restore from previous version" action, but it didn't do anything I could see.
On the desktop, before learning about the user.config trick, I simply created a new db and copied over the 4.2 .gdb and .gfi files and track contents. It seemed to work, but obviously is not an ideal situation as I don't know if the db format has changed.

    ambiguous messages
During installation it offers to clean up backup files from old versions. This is a bit vague, as it suggests I might not be able to do a "restore from backup" if it deletes them all. That would make it a bit pointless doing a backup before the new installation.

Have you actually attached your RV device? We hide some settings if the device isn't attached.

After uninstalling and reinstalling the RV settings are there. Still doesn't go to the right web page for help

Glad you got your RV settings going. The help pages will be updated as soon as we are able. The link is correct, the server needs to be updated and we are working on that.

This is strange. I am not able to reproduce, however I will continue to test.

BC launches where it was last closed in the correct place, but before it can finish loading or display the map or anything, it adjusts smaller, if you click around (2x) on the map or anywhere, it will expand to the correct size and correct text size and where it was last closed.

FYI, I changed the size of the type and font for the map as soon as I did the upgrade, changing it back or any of the display settings doesn't fix the issue. I did a reset options, that didn't fix it.

AND while doing all this the RV height, weight, length fields went away.

LJLAURSEN also posted the same problem and I'm also on Dell Inspiron Windows 8.1
