I don't even know how to title this...route question

In Basecamp, when you double click on a route with numerous waypoints such as 20 (magenta in my case) a properties box opens with the waypoints listed and you can move them around, changing their order.

Unfortunately, over on the left are the waypoints listed in the collection list...that do not synchronize with the changes you make in the properties box for the route in question.

The reason this is important to me is because I want to transfer the routes in the exact order I arrange them to another Garmin GPS.

Currently, if I export the routes as GPX files, they are in the order as they exist in the collections list and NOT in the order that I painstakingly arranged them in in he route properties.

It would be so nice if the collections list would automatically update as you change the order in the route properties since you obviously want to change the order.

Anyone familiar with this situation and know of a solution?

Keep in mind that I'm talking about differences (better or worse) between the two interfaces (in BaseCamp or whatever interfaces are on Nuvi's). I'm refering to the ability to use historic routes and sharing of routes with different devices.

So you're saying a route created with the routing tool in BaseCamp will not work on some Nuvi's and that Trip Planner in BaseCamp must be used? Is there a Trip/Route conversion tool I am unaware (beta versions perhaps)?

We're at cross purposes then ... the OP and others were talking about the trip planner feature on nuvis, which has replaced the older style 'route planner'. Routes created in Basecamp and sent to the newer nuvis will be converted into trips by the nuvi. It's confusing because 'trip planner' in Basecamp is something different again, and isn't something I use.

Initially there were some real problems with trip planner on the nuvi, as the 'trips' were basically a collection of routes, so you'd send a route from point A to C via B and they'd be treated as 2 separate routes, A to B then B to C. You wouldn't get any info on B to C until you reached B. Now trips on the nuvi work more like the older routes, you see the whole trip on the map and it seamlessly moves through the various via points without any interaction from the user.

SUSSAMB, thanks for the clarification. (I'm not entirely convinced that a conversion is actually required for the behavior you describe. But it is a silly argument without having access to code).

The OP is creating routes in BaseCamp and sending them to a Nuvi, so I'm not really sure we're at cross purposes.

My 2c.

It is very confusing when people don't use Garmin terminology and/or explain exactly what they mean. It only confuses the issue when stuff is mixed up or treated as the same thing.

As SUSSAMB said "trip planner" could mean the feature in BaseCamp or a nuvi. For me "routes" mean tradition Garmin routes. I don't refer to trips as routes even though they (hopefully) accomplish the same thing.

Maybe there needs to be a glossary somewhere here.

Another reason why having device specific forums seems like a no brainer if not a necessity for meaningful discussion.
