  • I don't know about Mac, but it's starting to look more like an updated version of Mapsource, instead of something not nearly suited to replacing MS.

I do believe from here on out, I don't think I can justify using Mapsource instead of Basecamp. There will continue to be opportunities for improvement, but I think it has finally surpassed the old standby for functionality for my uses.
  • I found ANOTHER new feature. You can select multiple routes and join them using the right-click menu. I did a test route and it worked great. It even maintained my entered start date. It included a neat window to allow you to set them in an order you preferred. Pretty slick, all around. There was also a route splitting option on the menu, but I haven't used that. I could see using it while planning long trips and cutting them into day routes.

I still don't get/grasp what the trip planner might be useful for? It seems pretty clunky compared to building routes from the db. I could see it being pretty cool as a management tool if I could drag & drop premade routes, or even waypoints into it. As it is, it just seems a bit cumbersome.
  • Trip Planner will be undergoing some improvements as we move forward with future releases. It was originally designed for less power driven users to organize a series of destination points on a vacation or business into a comprehensive itinerary.
  • Cool. I could see the organizational layout being useful.

Did I mention how much I like the new release?
  • Regarding the non-functional "Curvy-Roads" option, please have a look into the following german threads with some sample routes:

    http://www.naviboard.de/vb/showthread.php?t=56544
    http://www.naviboard.de/vb/showpost.php?p=466084&postcount=8

Thank you in advance for including this option in the upcoming release of basecamp.

  • What you could do is set the start and end to the same point. You'll end up with a no-distance route, but then you can add points that you want to see along your way. That would create what you are looking for.

As said earlier, for that I do not need a trip planner. Only Street Pilots can cope with circular routes where starting and ending point are the same in 1 route. If you want them to be the same you have to split up the route in 2 parts (start - intermediate stop, intermediate stop - ending (start))

Another question. When I recalculate an old route made in an earlier card version (e.g. 2013.x.x) I have to look at all the via points if they are on the route. If not, and if there is a high way (interstate) in it, it can happen that I find myself on the opposite lane. Is it possible to recalculate the vector data of the way and via points automatically? More over, I have the feeling that even by moving the via points, the old data information is not completely replaced by the new one?

Must say that the splitting/joining function of routes and tracks is a main feature that I do appreciate a lot. No need to go in to the route properties any more and copy/delete/paste parts of it

Sorry but that's simply wrong. Nuvis can easily cope with a start/finish being the same in a route/trip ... and I guess devices like the Dezl and Zumo can as well

I use a zumo 660, and a lot of my routes start and end at "home".

    BaseCamp 4.3.0.1 BETA.........

Below is a list of changes. This is only a BETA release.

Added waypoint categories to the waypoint and bulk waypoint property dialogs
I have a Nuvi 755T. It can use a numeric waypoint category system. Can I reasonably expect that the new waypoint categories feature in the BaseCamp beta will allow me to use the numeric waypoint categories in the 755T and save that information in BaseCamp like I used to be able to with MapSource? If so, how do I go about doing this?
  • If so, how do I go about doing this?

Categories in BC now are the same as Categories in your nuvi. Adding/changing categories in either place (BC or device) followed by a transfer will synch them up.

Unlike MS you can have more than 16 categories. Nuvi's have a limit though.

How many favorites categories can be created on an automotive device?
