"The route cannot be calculated. No roads are near the destination."

Here is an e-mail and response I got from Garmin support regarding a Basecamp error I am having with my RoadTech Zumo 660. Does this sound like BS to you? How is Basecamp not compatible with the 660?? Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Subject: Route error
>> Message: My old laptop finally bit the dust so I bought a new one. I have a Garmin Zumo 660 and reloaded Mapsource using the DVD that came with the Zumo. I then went online to download the latest updates. I updated maps and software for both the computer and GPS. MapSource is now running version 6.16.3 and the Zumo is now running software version 4.90. Maps are City Navigator North America NT 2014.30 on both the computer and the 660. The latest update also downloaded Basecamp Version 4.2.5 to my computer. Yesterday I started playing with Basecamp to learn the new interface and made a 230 mile route (all pavement on secondary two-lane roads). Today I went for a ride using the custom route and had a re-occurring error. Several times along the route the screen switched from the map to an error screen stating "The route cannot be calculated. No roads are near the destination." I could click "OK" and the screen would return to the map but not the custom route. I could then go thru the menu and re-select and start the custom route again and it would work fine. This error happened about 15 or 20 times on the ride. Very aggravating to say the least. It never happened before so I assume it is related to the map/software update. A quick Google search didn't reveal much. It seems that several people have experienced the same issue but no one has a good solution. I found one suggestion to reload the GPS firmware as it could be corrupt. I re-ran the Garmin WebUpdater and reloaded version 4.90 to the GPS but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Is this a known bug? If so what are the possible solutions. I searched the Garmin support site but found nothing regarding this error. Having to restart custom routes multiple times during a day-long ride is frustrating. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you, XXX

>>>Dear Ron Franks,

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I am sorry to hear you are having troubles with your zumo. I would be happy to help you with this route error message. There is most likely an issue with the route transferred over. It is possible this issue is because BaseCamp is not compatible with the Roadtech zumo 660. Please try creating the route in MapSource to see if you have the same issue.

With Best Regards, XXX

I am having the same error message on my Zumo 660 using the latest version currently available (4.2.5) and the North American NT 2014.4 map. It's a very annoying error message.

So Garmin may know about the issue but haven't fixed it yet.

Agreed. When I update the maps in my 1490T I manually go and recalculate all the routes in it. Any routes transferred to it after that will automatically be recalculated so they're not an issue. However the Zumo 660 doesn't do that (?) right. It just takes whatever is sent (?) to it.

Just to be clear, I received the error message after creating a new route with the newest map and the newest version of BC available. My zumo 660 also has the latest firmware.
  • Well if you're still getting an error after recalculating you should try a master reset to see if that cures it.
  • I have the route cannot be calculated, no roads errors OFTEN on my new 665. And on simple routes. I clear out any routes I'm not using and I only have a half dozen waypoints saved.

It sounds like it's a bug in Base Camp from reading a few of the posts here. MapSource is deprecated (and also doesn't work on Macs), so I hope Garmin is working hard to release a fix ASAP.

    The-route-cannot-be-calculated-No-roads-are-near-the-destination

I ride a motorcycle and for the past 3 years I have used BaseCamp to plan routes and download those routes into my Zumo 660. On my Zumo I import the custom route, review the route to ensure all looks good. HOWEVER, when I'm riding the Zumo will start to give me an error message "The-route-cannot-be-calculated-No-roads-are-near-the-destination." If I cancel out and then go back through the "Where to?" and select my route again, it will work for a short time and then crash again, same error message.

Keep in mind I'm RIDING A MOTORCYCLE and leading a group of riders during my routes. I'm the only one in my group that has a GPS.

I ride over 10K miles per season, all prior seasons I did not have this problem so I have no idea what has changed.

I've reset my Zumo, I've deleted all the non-essential files. I have over 563 MB available on my device.

I've updated my maps via BaseCamp & Zumo. I've made sure the activity profiles are the same on both BaseCamp and device (each selected with faster time and avoid unpaved roads). In reviewing the transfer options (see attached screenshot, the selected option is "Always match route to the map on my device when transferring" - could this be part of the problem?

Riding a motorcycle takes skill and focus and having my GPS crash takes my focus off riding...not good....really not good.

I've read tons of forums, general gist...BaseCamp doesn't work with Zumo? Are you kidding me? I've used it flawlessly for 3 years and only this season am I having issues.

    Zumo Software 5.10
    BaseCamp 4.4.7.0
recently updated maps to CN North America NT 2015.40 (I've noticed on the Zumo two maps are selected...one 3D & one not...same name and versions just one is classified as 3D. The map reflected in BaseCamp does not have 3D in the name. Is it possible the route is confused between the 2 maps on the device?

Headed on a very long trip...Sturgis this year, and yes I'm leading a large group of friends along with planning rides out to see the sights...Needles, Mount Rushmore and the like. Hoping to have issue resolved pretty darn quickly.

I'm hopeful someone finally has an answer on how to resolve.

    Thank you.
