Sending Route to Nuvi 40LM

I downloaded Basecamp on my Windows 7 computer. I created a short route. I clicked to send it to my device (Nuvi 40 LM). It appeared to download. When I went to the device, it wasn't there. What am I doing wrong?
  • Hi All,

How does auto-rerouting work when the device is in a "follow-a-route" mode.

For example lets say I have a route with a sequence of waypoints SP, W1,W2,W3, W4, EP (SP and EP being start and end points).

    There can be two cases:

    1. I Start from SP and in the last moment decide a different direct to W2 bypassing W1. Would the PND still keep forcing me to go via W1?
    2. This is a more relevant one. I start from SP but reach W1 in a different route compared to what was created on the device. Would the device force me take the route created in the device? Or would it auto-reroute dynamically and ask me to continue further on the route via W2/W3... ?

    Thanks.
  • 2. Your GPS can't 'force' you to take a route. You're the driver :). If you go 'off route' your GPS will just recalculate another route.

    1. Depends. If you have a GPS that uses 'route planner' then no. If you have a GPS that uses 'trip planner' then yes.
  • Thanks. That explains. After I posted I also realised:

    - We use waypoints because they mostly would be intermediate destination points
    - In most cases it won't make sense to bypass a waypoint which we actually put in there for a reason.

Unless of course waypoint was planted more as a route guide than a destination point. In such a case its possible, that one may chose to take a different routing compared to what he/she entered via route/trip planner.

    Another observation:

After transferring route/trip to the device, when I tried to import route from file (Nuvi 8 series), I see that the device keeps all old route names in memory. Though none of the routes have actually been imported.
How does the device "remember" these route names? Because I tried to do clean reset. I deleted all points/logs/routes etc. I also cleared user data and then tried to transfer every detail (waypoints, routes, trip etc) from scratch. But still the device remembered the names of the old routes. How does that happen?
  • You need to delete the file containing the routes. It will be in the GPX folder of your nuvi. You can safely delete any gpx file that's in there if you're not too sure which one contains the relevant routes.
