Odd straight lines

I am using Basecamp 4.2.3 and have a number of tracks/routes saved. To be honest I do not really understand the difference between tracks and routes. They were all originally tracks but thought routes would be better. My Colorado 300 does not like routes with too many way points, so I have been trying to convert previous routes back to tracks! Anyway, I am obviously doing something silly as both routes and tracks are now producing straight lines as can bee seen on the example attached. I am sure that the solution must be a simple click somewhere - but I cannot figure it out. This problem exists whether or not the Colorado (with the map chip) is attached or not.
Many thanks.
John.

    Straight lines

I believe it is caused by you turning off you gps. When you turn it back on, there will be a straight line for the "track" between the point what the GPS was off and when it was turned on again. Open one of the straight line track and see it there are any points on the track.

This is the problem that I have, any idea how to turn this off.
  • Do you have a Colorado also, or some other GPS?

Exactly what are you trying to 'turn off'?

Looks like a routable map and points not on a road.
Basecamp/MapSource will follow the nearest road as close at it gets, than take the shortest distance (offroad) to that point.
If you want to follow the points, select direct route in Basecamp/MapSource.
For GPSses with routable maps: Turn recalculation in your GPS off (otherwise it will make it's own "artists impression").
