Stop labels from showing on all geocaches

While Basecamp is certainly more robust and has lots of features it is missing one (at least as far as I can see). I dump a Pocket Query of Geocaches in (or read from the device) and when I zoom down to plan my day it shows the labels for all of them which obscures the whole map and other caches so I can't plan. In Mapsource I could go to the waypoints column and select all then change it to show only symbols.

In Basecamp I have to do each one individually which would take some time with over a thousand.

Any solutions.

    Walter,

Just adding my voice. I am so frustrated because one of the selling points for me in buying my 62st was that I could use Basecamp to plan my caching trips on the PC.

How difficult can it be to add an option to toggle between icons only / icons and labels??

This is very disappointing and impossible to use for general planning ...

  • Falagar is aware of this issue, and the fact that if you mistakenly click on the cache icon and show it as 'found' you can't then click again and show it as 'unfound'. Hopefully this will all be corrected soon, since as you say it makes it virtually impossible to use

Well, I'm new here and don't know who Falagar is, but I would like to invite his comments on this...

This view of the map is great...

But viewing my Geocaches turns it into this...

Why can I not switch off the labels? They totally obscure the map.
  • Falagar is one of the Basecamp developers, I doubt he works on a Sunday but he may comment tomorrow :)

After 48 hours of using this program which doesn't meet my needs I went back to Mapsource. It is still available for download and does everything I need. I use basecamp for Birdseye only but it is useless for planning.
  • Well it may be useless for your use, that doesn't mean it's useless for all the rest of us :)

I too geocache and find planning perfectly OK, just zoom in a bit and you might find it helps. However I do agree that it would be useful to be able to turn lables off in bulk, in the same way as can be done for waypoints

Yes, at higher zoom levels the caches are spread far enough apart to be able to still see the map, but when planning a route, sometimes a lower zoom is needed. Even zoomed in, the labels are very distracting, and do still obscure parts of the map.

I have temporarily set the font size to '1' to make the labels as small as possible. I then just work with the popup labels that appear when I hover over a cache. This helps with viewing at lower zoom levels, but should not be necessary.

Love the idea of setting font to 1. Works great for me. Now may spend some time getting familiar with it. Still trying to figure some things out. Accidentally deleted a bunch of Birdseye files and while they are still in the appdata folder I can't get them back into display. I had the device hooked up and it shows all the caches on it and when i deleted them all I missed the warning and deleted all. Need to find a way to stop it from showing them and how to get the birdseye into a location where they will be safe.

I just checked....Basecamp does indeed let me select a bunch of waypoints.....right click on the bunch....click OPEN.....says the number of waypoints selected and you can change all of them to whatever...:o

The problem here is you are not paying attention to the conversation. I know you can do it with waypoints. My point is you can't do it with Geocaches.
