BC as default .gpx AND how to locate and share my baseline maps

Hi, I've got an etrex 30. I'm interested in setting base camp as my default .gpx opener, this is probably a simple thing to do, but I'm having a hard time getting windows to locate the program file.

On a slightly more relevant topic, where on my gps are the base map files located and how can I share them with other people? It is easy to find the gpx files - you just open the device as a storage device and there they are. But - the maps. I'm told that they are typically stored on the microSD chip inside the unit itself. Upon examination I'm only finding a disc image for one of them.

Any advice in the matter? thanks!

When we're talking about about precompiled img files from devices JaVaWa GMTK won't help; GMTK is meant for managing the maps that are installed on your computer.

Of course, but since the OP says he had topo maps downloaded from "online sources" , I assumed they were installed in Mapsource/Basecamp on his computer. This would be the case with just about all the topo maps from GPSFileDepot for example. :)

The maps I'm trying to share are all topographic maps from free online sources.

Yes, but the OP was talking about sharing files from his device...
The concept of different 'packages' of the same map for devices versus PCs is not always clear for everyone. Combined with the aversion against reading manuals this sometimes causes problems like when somebody tries to 'copy' (but actually moves) maps from the PC to a device with GMTK.

You can already make BaseCamp the default program for opening .gpx files.

Indeed. I remember trying that in the past and it did not work. But now it works. Great, thanks, very useful!
