BaseCamp 4.1.2 is available at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435. The update from within BaseCamp should also work.

This is a maintenance release, so it's pretty much all bug fixes. No new features were implemented for this version.

The list of changes:
  • Fixed an issue with Basestation mode.
  • Fixed an issue where BaseCamp would not remember the positioning of the toolbars correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the Custom POI symbols from POI files where incorrect.
  • Fixed an issue with the address search.
  • Fixed an issue where refreshing a search was using the last location on the map, not the current one.
  • Fixed an issue where Cutting (Ctrl-X) a photo on a device would delete the photo and prevent the user from pasting it.
  • Fixed an issue with some Asian language map products.
  • Fixed an issue with deleting track points.
  • Fixed an issue with route creation in a folder.
  • Fixed an issue where the hand tool was not always set as the default tool.
  • Fixed some menu inconsistencies between find results, context menus, and map popup menus.
  • Changed translations of Walking and Hiking activity profiles in Dutch.

Well Garmin has it in the "marine" category but it seems to support non-marine functionality.

My 76CSx is categorized as "marine" whereas its brother/sister (the 60CSx) is "outdoor". Both support roads maps and POI Loader so go figure. They also share the exact same firmware and have the same functionality (except for the "Mark" button).

If I was going going to fork out $4,900 for a GPSmap 8012 I'd really want to be sure it'd do what I wanted :)
  • Garmin put all US Topo maps as compatible with 8012. Other peculiarity of marine GPS is that they don't support TYP files but I think US Topo don't use TYP either. So maybe there is some compatibility ;)

Models 76 and 78 are outdoor GPS inside floating case. I think that it is a kind of marketing joke that they put them on marine list. They aren't listed as compatible with BlueCharts g2 Vision.

Edit: there are some better defined categories in Garmin products. 8012 is listed as "Glass Helm" but I think general name for that kind of devices could be chartplotters. They are designed for marine maps and doesn't support road maps. I'm surprised that they can use US Topo.

I just upgraded from BaseCamp 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 (on MS Windows 7). Geotaging photos no longer works (the list of photos to geotag is always empty - and pops up very quickly - it has not searched for them very hard).

Back rev to 4.1.1 (by uninstalling 4.1.2 and installing 4.1.1) and geotagging is now working as I expect it to.

I cannot reproduce this. What are you doing exactly?

    In BaseCamp:
    - Right click on track and select Geotag Photos using Track...
    - new window pops up
    - Browse to location of photos
    - Click Next>
    - Untick/uncheck Import photos
    - No time shift
    - Click Next>

In 4.1.1 there is a long time delay as BaseCamp scans my selected directory/folder for photos, then a list of selected image files is shown.
In 4.1.2 there is no time delay before an empty list is shown.

    Thank you for responding.

Does this happen regardless how many photos you have checked for geotagging? Because I still cannot reproduce this, BaseCamp 4.1.2 geotags photos fine for me.

If you can reproduce this with a single photo, would you mind sharing that photo and the track you used for tagging? Hopefully having the same data will allow us to reproduce and fix the issue.

The list of photos is consistently empty (ie, it contains no photos) - the problem is with the generation of this list.

The empty list is produced very quickly so it seems that no attempt is made to scan the selected directory/folder for files.

Again, my problem is with the generation of the list of photos - I do not get the opportunity to check any photos for geotagging and, of course, no geotagging takes place.

BaseCamp 4.1.2 makes no attempt to search for photos in the directory I specified. BaseCamp 4.1.1 works as expected.

    Hi

Today I converted a track containing 3351 point to a route by clicking the "Create Route" button in the properties dialog.
This resulted in a route with 3351 (!) via points despite the indicated max 25 points in the track conversion dialog.
When I checked the option "Choose the number of point automatically" I got a route with 1575 via points.
As far as I can recall did does not occurred in the past. I cannot recollect which Basecamp version did not had this problem.

    Regards
    Rob

Thanks again. What is the path you are browsing to for geotagging?

I'd really like to figure out why this is failing for you, I have no issues with geotagging and haven't heard anyone else report this either. I am also not aware of any changes between 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 that could have caused this.

Out curiosity, does exporting/importing data work for you in 4.1.2?

    Thank you for showing interest.

I did some more experimenting. If I try to geotag using an old track that already has some photos in its Notes section, the list of photos is comes up with are the ones it already knew about, and not the ones in the directory that I told it to search.

You say it is working for you. Are you using a brand new track, or one that you have already use to geotag photos?

Out curiosity, does exporting/importing data work for you in 4.1.2?

I don't use this much, but I just tried it and it seemed to do what I would expect it to do (export created a file with reasonable looking XML, import added an entry to my library with a good-looking track).
