Getting "MSI error: InstallFailure" with version 4.1.0

I've tried loading the new 4.1.0 version three times now.....always fails with above message.

I'm on a Windows7 PC. The previous version of BC was working fine on this device. Anybody else getting this?

Did anyone find a solution to this? I'm facing the same thing with the Ant Agent.
  • Perhaps you could tell us why you're unable to?

But you could copy the .gpx files from the GPX folder and view them in any other suitable program.
  • Really? Given that there are very few problems installing Basecamp I suspect it is a problem with your PC. There is apparently a solution that has worked for some:

    1. download BaseCamp.exe file, than use a compress tool like 7-zip

    2. right mouse click on the file to open file and see elements in the exec file

    3. look for the BCMAIN.msi file, double click, it will then install,

    4. after you can then go back to the normal BaseCamp.exe

I've never tried this so hope it helps.
  • If you continue to have installation problems, contact Garmin Support. The installers are built by another department to be sure we have a repeatable process in creating applications. This is by design, but the desktop apps doesn't control the installer. Garmin Support has been able to help other people as well with installation issues. So hopefully they will give some insight as to steps you can take.

    msi error

Yes, using the BCMAIN.msi file it was possible installing BaseCamp.
However, other additional task was required. The installation program was not able to access some folders of my PC (Windows7) located on ProgramData\StartMenu and ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu. So, I took ownership of all folders and files of "ProgramData".

  • Here it is a year later - and it still fails the same way. Garmin support - have you no pride?

Wonderful hardware, but the software sucks.
  • Millions use it with no problem. What OS are you using? What have you tried? Where does it fail and with what error message?

I have had the same problem with ANT gent. MSIfailure on W7.
Unsintall, clean PC registry (with wise registry cleaner for example which is free), reboot, install.
For ANT Agent it worked for me, maybe it will be the same for basecamp...

    Solution

    Hi guys,
I had pretty same issue while installing the bascamp on my computer and have found a solution for it. If you are getting the error "MSI Error:InstallFailure" you can try steps below, it did worked for me!

    • Download latest version of basecamp which is available from here: http://www.garmin.com/en-US/shop/downloads/basecamp (i'm installing the BaseCamp 4.4.2, you can download it from this link: http://download.garmin.com/software/BaseCamp_442.exe)

    • Install the requirements of BaseCamp as described in first link of #1. This is pre-requirements for 4.4.2:
      System Requirements:
Windows Vista Service Pack 2 or later is required. Machines with earlier operating systems can use BaseCamp 4.2.5.
.NET framework 4.5 SP1 is required. A current version of .NET will be installed if needed.
Windows Media Player 11 or greater is required (a free download from Microsoft).
1 GB of system memory is required, 2 GB of system memory is recommended when using BirdsEye Imagery or Garmin Custom Maps.
A video card that supports OpenGL version 1.3 or later is needed to enable the 3D view.
If you experience problems when interacting with the map views, please make sure that you have installed current video card drivers.
BaseCamp will recognize all MapSource products except BlueChart.
BaseCamp does not work with serial GPS devices.

    • You should scan disk your C drive by opening my computer, righ click on C drive, go to tools tab and in Error checking section, click the "Check Now". and in next widow check both check boxes as shown in image:

      .

then click Start and it probably shows a message box to you that you should restart your computer in order to do scan, select ok and restart your computer at it takes some minutes to finish scanning your computer. I know this is odd solution, for more information you can see the note below on why you should do this.
** note: If you check the v4.4.2 installer file, you will find out it is a compressed file and it can be unzipped with applications like winrar etc. all you need to do is to change extension from .exe into .rar. After decompressing, there are many files in the decompressed directory, one is named 'BCMAIN.msi' which you can run, and if you run it at middle of installation it will hopefully get the error: "the profile of the user is a temporary profile" which seems that unzipped installer is hiding this message from end user. there are some workaround for this issue here: http://www.techsupportall.com/how-to-fix-temporary-profile-in-windows-7/, one is to do some registry stuff and another is to scan disc your c drive which i bring here the scan disk

    • Wait until scan disk finish and your windows boot up, retry installing the file and hopefully you will be able to install the application without any error (exactly like me)!
