BaseCamp 4.0.2 - Lost Access To MapSource Maps

I have just updated from BaseCamp 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 and lost all access to my original MapSource maps. The maps worked correctly up to and including v4.0.1 od BaseCamp. All I can see now is the Global Map.

In the Map Product Manager Unlock Regions tab both City Navigator 4 and 5 are listed as "Map Product Not Installed" even though they are installed on the machine.

Selecting the Add button and entering the unlock code makes no difference. These map products were previously unlocked and worked perfectly OK in both MapSource and BaseCamp. Now the maps are not even accessible through the original MapSource software either!!!!!! What are you playing at Garmin??? Another broken application.

The registry maps are also somewhere in a directory on you disk, find the directories (c:\garmin\.... ? c:\program files (c86)\Garmin\.... ?)

Download the JaVaWa MapConverter and install this program.

Then drag a directory with a register map inside it to the converter en push convert and install. This will convert your register map to a gmap map and places it on the right spot. Check to start MS of BC and/of GMTK to see the map.

Repeat this for all your registry map direcotries. Don't forget to delete the registry map directories when you are done, otherwise it's "dead weight" on your harddisk.

I am not completely sure, but i thought that it will convert all Maps, except for NT maps, but maybe it will, just try, the MapConverter will tell you if it's not possible.
  • JaVaWa MapConverter can convert almost any map (including NT maps!); there are a few exceptions as I stated before in this thread.

The good news is that the maps are still there. Only the registry entries are gone. So the use of the maps can be restored either by restoring the registry entries or converting the maps so they don't need registry entries. And JaVaWa has solutions for either! :)

    ...ken...

Well, that is actually partly true. Yes, I've got a program to convert maps, but GMTK can restore maps (completely, not just the registry entries) only when you've created a backup beforehand.
