New firmware with adventure support has been released for:

Montana
62 Series (includes 78 series)
Oregon x50 Series
Dakota

“Garmin Adventures” is a new feature that allows you to easily share trips and photos and lets you find Adventures by other Garmin users. You can download a track from your GPS to BaseCamp, add some photos, videos and annotations; upload the trip as an Adventure and then share it via the Garmin Adventures web site with friends and family. BaseCamp allows you to author Adventures, and use a playback feature so you can re-live your trip. In the near future, Garmin devices will add support for Adventures as well.

The BaseCamp 4.0.0.4 gives you an early preview into Garmin Adventures. Please let us know how you like it and what you think we can improve. BaseCamp 4.0.0.4 will lead you to short surveys that will help us make Adventures a better product. If you have a minute to spare, please fill out these surveys. Thanks.

Finding Adventures

You can use BaseCamp’s find feature to locate other Adventures. You can download Adventures that you would like to take a closer look at. If you'd like to follow an adventure, just transfer it to your device.

Adventure Display and Playback

You can view details about an Adventure, and use the Playback feature. The Playback experience will be better if you have a Topo map and BirdsEye imagery. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8al8CHqOBmg for an example.

Creating an Adventure

You can create an Adventure from any track, either from My Collection or directly from your device. BaseCamp will locate photos and waypoints in the vicinity of the Adventure track. You can add annotations, YouTube videos and additional photos. It is important that you enter a good description so other can better experience your Adventure. Note that you can pick from the prepopulated list of activities or simply enter your own.

Each Adventure has its own database, so you can play around with your Adventure’s data without making any changes in your data in My Collection.

Publishing an Adventure

Once you are happy with your adventure, you can publish it. You can share a published adventure with friends and family (http://adventures.garmin.com/en-US/by/eracerz/hanakapiai-falls-trail-hike-2), you can link the adventure to your favorite social media site, you can use it to back-up your trip and download it again on a different machine and you can help fellow Adventurers find interesting stuff to do.

New to this forum, but very interested in Garmin Adventures possibilities. I am having some troubles though.

    1. I would like to update MyGarmin account. I have created two but I can only sign on to Garmin Adventures with one of them. I can sign into MyGarmin with both.

    2. Previously I had created an adventure but now even signed in I cannot unarchieve it or publish it from my PC, nor can I publish a new one on my Mac. I have ensured I am only logged in with one at a time.

    3. My initial GA included a YouTube video I had created several years ago. During playback it states on the video screen "This video contains content from UMG. It is restricted from playback on certain sites. Watch on YouTube

Not sure what UMG is but maybe something Garmin can look into.

    Thanks,

    Terry

You have a music track flagged on youtube side of things, you will need to do an audio swap or use another video.

Well I got started with adventures today and uploaded one. Only problems I found was my start point photo is not viewed until last despite restarting and republishing, though not a major thing, one of my other photos will simply not be placed next to the waypoint, the nearest I can get it is about 500 metres away, and finally on playback when you click the speed up buttons it still displays 1x although the pointer does speed up. So nothing majorly drastic here. Would be nice if someone uploaded some hikes near me!

trying to publish another adventure but receiving "Failed to publish your adventure" error after about 1 minute. There's no explanation that I could find which points to the reason for the failure.

Are there any limits such as number of pics, waypoints and/or total track points?

Yes you are correct, however it does playback on YouTube just fine. Thought if there was a flag it would not play anywhere.

I have noticed an issue here with updating an adventure already published. I was editing the overview part of an adventure but it was not updating after "publishing updates" I have found that I have to archive the adventure first, then make any changes including a change to the actual title, publish the update then unarchive the adventure after which it then updates. Could this be looked into, or can anyone confirm if their update process works differently. If this is the correct method then maybe this should be noted in the help files.

One other question which may cause some concern is whether archiving an adventure actually deletes it from the server? Considering people are uploading photos of which they will own the rights to ( or worse maybe not ) is there a risk of a privacy/rights issue or a dispute in how the data is stored?

I'll investigate. Sounds like a device firmware issue.

    Falagar - Have you investigated?

Just updated to firmware ver 4.50 using webupdater and still got 2 "Adventure" items in the menu.

Also I noticed after updating to firmware ver 4.40 the up/down keys often didn't respond when trying to select "Yes" or "No" menus when deleting/clearing trip logs and tracks. This now seems fine with ver 4.50.
  • BC 402 and Montana FW 460:

I am still having trouble with sending Adventures to my Montana 650.

I download an adventure to BaseCamp. It will show any number of tracks, waypoints, photos, etc. after it is finished downloading.

After, I will drag the Adventure to my Montana (not the uSD) and wait for the progress bar to finish, and check the total tracks, waypoints, photos, etc against the BC version. If they match, I assume all is well.

I reboot my Montana, and find Tracks, Waypoints, and Photos randomly missing from most Adventures.

Reconnect to BaseCamp, recheck totals, and they no longer match.

Resend, re-compare, and reboot Montana, and still data is not all transferred, seemingly randomly.

Is there any pattern as to what data is missing? Waypoints? Tracks? Photos?

Have you tried a different adventures? Can you tell me which adventure you tried? Then I could try to reproduce this here.
