New firmware with adventure support has been released for:

Montana
62 Series (includes 78 series)
Oregon x50 Series
Dakota

“Garmin Adventures” is a new feature that allows you to easily share trips and photos and lets you find Adventures by other Garmin users. You can download a track from your GPS to BaseCamp, add some photos, videos and annotations; upload the trip as an Adventure and then share it via the Garmin Adventures web site with friends and family. BaseCamp allows you to author Adventures, and use a playback feature so you can re-live your trip. In the near future, Garmin devices will add support for Adventures as well.

The BaseCamp 4.0.0.4 gives you an early preview into Garmin Adventures. Please let us know how you like it and what you think we can improve. BaseCamp 4.0.0.4 will lead you to short surveys that will help us make Adventures a better product. If you have a minute to spare, please fill out these surveys. Thanks.

Finding Adventures

You can use BaseCamp’s find feature to locate other Adventures. You can download Adventures that you would like to take a closer look at. If you'd like to follow an adventure, just transfer it to your device.

Adventure Display and Playback

You can view details about an Adventure, and use the Playback feature. The Playback experience will be better if you have a Topo map and BirdsEye imagery. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8al8CHqOBmg for an example.

Creating an Adventure

You can create an Adventure from any track, either from My Collection or directly from your device. BaseCamp will locate photos and waypoints in the vicinity of the Adventure track. You can add annotations, YouTube videos and additional photos. It is important that you enter a good description so other can better experience your Adventure. Note that you can pick from the prepopulated list of activities or simply enter your own.

Each Adventure has its own database, so you can play around with your Adventure’s data without making any changes in your data in My Collection.

Publishing an Adventure

Once you are happy with your adventure, you can publish it. You can share a published adventure with friends and family (http://adventures.garmin.com/en-US/by/eracerz/hanakapiai-falls-trail-hike-2), you can link the adventure to your favorite social media site, you can use it to back-up your trip and download it again on a different machine and you can help fellow Adventurers find interesting stuff to do.

One of the reasons I purchased the Montana 600 was to log our overland travels and embed them into our website. I have been using the Trimble Outdoors app up to this point and compared to Garmin thus far, I may have to stick with this iPhone app. The Trimble interface and ease of use supersedes my Montana and I simply copy/paste the embed link to my site. Additionally, with the annual subscription I have terrain views, and Google Earth type views, which unless you pay a crazy price, I haven't seen yet through Garmin. Sorry Garmin, but the map that is pre-loaded appears a little cartoon-ish...not what I expected from a leader in GPS solutions.

    Hi all,

It seems there's a problem with Garmin Adventures' site http://adventures.garmin.com.
    When accessing, I get this:

    Is the site down?
    Thanks.

If you have no adventures (and delete the 'What is this' item) then nothing will be displayed.

The problem with the links and the iPad 'more' display still exists in version 4.0.4, see for example:
    http://adventures.garmin.com/nl-NL/by/andre-wolff/wandeling-rond-de-vecht-bij-diffelen/#.UJd33MVmK5I

    I have seen more problems:

    1. If I enter in a photo notations a link like
    http://www.andrewolff.nl/FotoSerie/Wandelingen/Vecht_Diffelen/slides/Vecht_121026_1052_P360p.html
it is displayed wrongly, the _ token changes the format in italic. To display this correct I have to enter it as:
    http://www.andrewolff.nl/FotoSerie/Wandelingen/Vecht\_Diffelen/slides/Vecht\_121026\_1052\_P360p.html
This is not happening for a link in the introduction text.

    2. If I delete an adventure in BaseCamp, the geotaged photo's in folder
    C:\Users\Andre\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\BaseCamp\GeotaggedPhotos
are not removed. I had to do that outsite Basecamp by hand.

    Thanks for support
  • Annoying Adventure Error - Still Present

I don't remember how long ago I posted about this in the past, I can't find the post right now.....

When searching for Garmin Adventures 'from center of map', the closest result is more than 150 miles away, yet I know there are adventures IN THE CENTER OF THE MAP.

I suspect Garmin does not take themselves seriously, or their hardware, or their software, and mostly, not their customers.

Why, Why Garmin do you start so many projects but NEVER finish them????

    so frustrating..........

Example search with SEDONA, AZ in center of map:

Yep, adventure search is a bit of a hit and miss. In my case (having Sedona, AZ, in the center of the screen), BC found no adventure at first, one on the second try (after clicking on "Find more items") and 10+ on the third try, all within ten miles of center.

Does anyone know how to delete an adventure that was published.
I accidentally published an adventure before I completed it but don't know how to delete it no that it has been published.

You cannot delete Adventures. But you can archive it which makes it invisible.

Once you complete it you can unarchive it so it shows up again.

Don't worry, no one will be able to find your adventure anyway....
