Basecamp not showing any of my Oregon's maps

I have Basecamp 3.3.2 installed on my laptop and my desktop. On my laptop, when my Oregon 450 is connected and Basecamp loaded, I can see my device maps. However, on my desktop, when I do the exact same thing, I cannot see any of my device maps and only see the default Global Map and Worldwide Autoroute Map.

I have tried reinstalling Basecamp on the desktop and also deleted the Basecamp folders as per another topic on this Forum. Nothing solves this. I am thinking that perhaps updating to the latest BC version on the desktop messed something up, but I can't figure out why. It's weird that it works fine on my laptop but that the device maps disappear on my desktop.

I am running Windows 7 on both computers. On my Oregon 450, I have an SD card with the Backroads Country Map BC v.3 (unlocked) and I have the West Canada Topo on the device itself.

Any help would be appreciated!

I apologize for the trouble. We've had a few reports of this, but haven't figured out a cause yet. So I am very interested in trouble-shooting this.

Could you provide a screenshot of BaseCamp with the Oregon connected? I'd like to verify that both the device and the SD card show up.

Also, you say you have no other maps installed on your computer? All you see if the Global Map?

When you connect the Oregon to BaseCamp, is there a bar visible under the device indicating it tries to read the map from it?

Lastly, try deleting the card cache. For me, with Windows 7, it's at C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\CardProductCache. I somewhat doubt this will fix it, but it's an easy thing to try.

Are you sure that BaseCamp has finished processing the content of the Oregon?
The first time that you connect to BaseCamp it takes an age to establish what is on the Oregon device and the microSD card. This is made particularly slow if you have a lot of BirdsEye (JNX) files since Basecamp creates a local copy on the PC and the USB speed appears to be far less than USB-2 standard even with a fast card.
As Falagar says, the only indication that "syncronisation" is in progress is a coloured bar under the device entry on the left of screen.
While the file copy is taken, no details of Waypoints, Routes or Tracks will be available when you click on the device.
  • Falagar,

I am having a similar problem with an edge 705. I had an older version of basecamp installed 3.0 or 3.1, it recognize the SD cards in my computer. After upgrasing to 3.3.2 or 3.3.3, basecamp does not recognize the SD cards at all, but it does recognize the edge unit itself. I downloaded 3.2.1 and it also works. Any recommendations on how to troubleshoot this?

did you also delete the basecamp entry in the registry? It is my experience with other programs, that reinstalling does not help, if there are corrupt entries in the registry. (HKey_current_user\software\garmin )

Is there a Memory Card folder under All Data? Since 3.3.1, BC will try to associate the SD card with your Garmin device.

What it used to look like (3.2.1)

What it look like now (3.3.3)
  • I do not get a memory card folder in version 3.3.x under the device. In fact I don't get any memory cards or other removable media to show up. Just the device itself.

If the memory card has a map installed on it, does BC still pick up the map?

    * Does BC recognize your SD card if you connect it through a SD card reader (if you have one)?

    * Try backup your data, then remove all files from your SD card with window explorer. Check and see if BC recognize it

BC should read map on a SD card (assuming they're .img file)

I would appear that I may have needed to reboot the computer before BC would recognize memory card readers. The strange thing was it would recognize the main device itself. Problem appears to be solved.
  • I am also seeing this behaviour as well with BC 3.3.3

It is a fresh install on a new PC running Win 7 64

Both the Oregon 450 and the SD card show up in Explorer, but only the Oregon shows up in BC and not the SD card.
  • Tried putting the SD card into a card reader and it worked Ok.
