BaseCamp 3.3.2 has been released. You can download it manually at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435, and the update from within BaseCamp should be available later today.

This is a maintenance release, meaning it's mainly bug fixes.

Among other things, this release should fix most cases of where 3.3.1 would not read certain maps from cards/devices.

Also, users on small netbook screens should now be able to close the Welcome Dialog (we made it smaller).

The official change list:

  • Changed the view menu data filter options to not be disabled when in map only mode filters.
  • Changed the range of allowed ID's for maps on card to reduce ID collisions, this has the side effect of requiring all card products to be re-indexed.
  • Changed the default value for the mountain bike profile state highway avoidance.
  • Reduced the size of the "Welcome to BaseCamp" dialog so that it fits on smaller screens.
  • Fixed an issue when dividing a route with more than one reference to the same waypoint
  • Fixed issues when reading a map installed on a card when there are ID conflicts
  • Fixed an issue when a route with the "None" profile route doesn't have preferences.
  • Fixed an issue where a route that was switched from the "Direct" profile to "None" would ever auto-route.
  • Fixed an issue when deleting all waypoints from a route.
  • Fixed a shutdown issue.
  • Fixed an issue with line breaks in GPX files.
  • Fixed an issue related to bad data imported from old MapSource GDB files.
  • Fixed an issue where tracks lose all data besides position after doing a sequence of divide, undo, and redo operations.
  • Fixed an issue with the application hanging after doing a "Reset Options" when other dialogs are open.
  • Fixed an issue when changing folder or list selection.
  • Fixed an issue when double clicking on a file while another file was being imported.
  • Fixed an issue with data not being migrated between BaseCamp 2.0 and BaseCamp 3.3.
  • How do I change the direction of a route..

I am trying to learn Basecamp. I am use to using MapSource.

I made a route by draging the start and destination when creating the route. It takes me in the correct direction but it also takes me down a road that is difficult to navigate with my 38ft 5th Wheel trailer. I want it to take me down a different route. In MapSource I can drag the route to a place on the road I wish to travel. Basecamp does not allow this. I can put an additional waypoint and include it in the route. This waypoint now changes the distance to distination and gets lost in all the waypoints in the list.

Basecamp is a difficult program to understand. It seems to work as everything is on a server and all is saved in a common database. I have over 200 waypoints that are in the same database as the routes and I don't know how to upload just the waypoints and routes to my 465t that I want for my next trip.

Is there a way to save my routes in a seperate file?

    Thanks

Left-click on the arrow (select tool). Left-click on your route. Left-click on the Insert Pencil Tool. Left-click on the route and you will get a rubberband just like in MapSource.

File>New>List. Cleverly rename your new list. Drag and drop your routes into that list. Attach your GPS to the usb. Drag and drop that List onto the GPS.

Try the zumoforums Wiki BaseCamp Tutorial. I hope it helps you fill in the spaces.

Goodness, it just doesn't get much more intuitive than that, does it?

The sarcasm wasn't aimed at you, Dave. Thank you for the tip. In all my messing around with Basecamp I was never able to figure that one out on my own. :(

In Basecamp, click on your route in the list in the library to get it highlighted. Now click on the Insert Tool. As you move the cursor near the route a thick black line will appear between the two points either side of where you have the cursor. Click on the route and you get the rubber band effect (like MapSource). Click on a new point where you want the route to go through and the route will immediately be amended to include the new point. You can continue adding additional points.

If you want to add points into several sections of the route, press ESC and now the thick black lines will reappear so you can choose another section of the route to edit.

    I hope this helps.

KA5KMU. To manage your waypoints (and routes and tracks), you can create lots of List folders within MyCollections and lots of Lists within each List folder.

Everything that is in any of the Lists is also shown in the MyCollections folder.

You can cut (or copy) Waypoints, Tracks and Routes and paste them into a other list. Name each List to reflect the contents (such as "May Holiday".

You can "Remove" items from a Lists. Or you can "Delete" items in which case they are removed from all the Lists that they exist in. You get a warning before they are deleted.

    I hope this helps.

KA5KMU. And finally. You can select (highlight) a List or List Folder and "Export" it to a File on your Computer. This is a bit like Saving a File in MapSource.

This enables you to manage your groups of Routes separately and you can then Import whichever file you want into Basecamp. This is much more like Mapsource.

To fully replicate MapSource file handling, after you have Exported to a File, you can delete everything in MyCollections. Next time you load Basecamp, you will have an empty MyCollections into which you can Import one of your "Files".

    Regards

  • Video Tutorial problem

Thanks for the information about Basecamp. I launched the training videos . The video about sharing seems to go to the Find Video.

I am doing much better using Basecamp. I haven't used a route yet but as I can see if I adjust the route the via points are not suppose to be announced. If this works that will be great. When I am driving to a destination I don't like the distance to show to the shaping waypoint and announce the shaping point.

Roy, Thank you for the help.

If you choose to use Roy's suggestion -- and it's just about the only useful way to use Basecamp if you like to do route planning and then dump all the interim routes and associated junk without driving yourself insane! -- keep in mind one hard and fast rule:

    Always save as .GDB !!

Saving as a .GDB file will keep all the data in the same form/format as it is stored in Basecamp's database. That way, when you reload it it will come back in exactly the way it was. This will get you as close as you can get to the concept of always loading clean files in Mapsource.

Saving as a .GPX file will cause Basecamp to change things and even just throw stuff out so when you reload the file in Basecamp you will not always get what you saved.

It can be most frustrating until you understand the difference.

  • Thanks Ken
I will remember to save as a .GDB file.

    I will master BC..
