BaseCamp 3.3.1 has been released, it is available for download at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435. It should also be available via auto-update from an earlier version of BaseCamp.

This is a localized release, so it is available in 22 languages.

This is the first release that will feature an online help, that is why the download size of the installer is quite a bit smaller than it used to be.

Also new with this release is are some beginner videos that will explain some of BaseCamp's basic functionality. You can get to them from the new Welcome page from within BaseCamp, or by visiting http://www8.garmin.com/learningcenter/training/basecamp/#PC.

Changes from 3.2.2 to 3.3.1:

  • Added collapsible list folders and sub-lists for improved organization.
  • Added shaping point support for zumo devices like done in MapSource.
  • Added explicit support for shaping points. These will be transferred to supporting devices.
  • Added support for transfer of waypoint categories on supporting devices. These are displayed in BaseCamp as lists.
  • Added more activity profiles, with improved activity routing on supported maps.
  • Added specific avoidances for various road classes, removed the road selection slider.
  • Added custom activity profiles.
  • Added keyboard short-cuts for editing tools (divide, insert, erase).
  • Added a tools menu for easier discovery of tool keyboard shortcuts.
  • Changed to make GPX files on a memory card directly editable.
  • Changed to read all GPX files on a memory card, similar to how devices behave.
  • Improved graphing of track data.
  • Improved graphing when multiple routes or tracks are selected.
  • Improved layout of geotagged photo, waypoint, route, and track properties.
  • Added additional statistics to route and track properties.
  • Added 'Center on map' check-box on route and track dialogs.
  • Added an easier way to add waypoints to routes (Insert Waypoint button).
  • Added additional data fields to waypoints (such as address and phone number).
  • Added display and updating of date last modified for waypoints.
  • Added display of lists that contain this data item to properties.
  • Added receiving geocache visits from devices.
  • Added logging geocache visits on OpenCaching.com.
  • Added printing of geocaches.
  • Added alternate notification mechanism (less annoying pop-ups).
  • Added display settings to adjust width of routes and tracks.
  • Added support for importing waypoints and tracks from KML/KMZ files.
  • Added suggested file name when exporting (so it isn't always 'untitled').
  • Added more map details for higher detail setting.
  • Added data filters to map view.
  • Added preserving the dialog size for each data type.
  • Added option to reset track's altitude to map data.
  • Added functionality to remember display feature settings per profile.
  • Changed 'Remove List and Contents' to 'Remove list and unique contents'.
  • Added Shift-Delete short-cut for 'Remove list and unique contents'.
  • Added a confirmation dialog for 'Remove list and unique contents'.
  • Added hiding of Activity profiles.
  • Added creating OpenCaches from waypoints.
  • Added calculating ascent and descent for direct routes.
  • Added indication of data filter visibility state on the data list.
  • Added recalculation of more than 1 route at a time.
  • Improved printing of routes and tracks.
  • Change to prevent property dialogs becoming lost off screen after screen resolution changes.
  • Fixed issues with sending routes to the zumo.
  • Update waypoint references to new map data when recalculating routes.
  • Fixed any profiles from BaseCamp 3.2 that have invalid routing preferences (ie invalid vehicle types and incorrect avoidances).
  • Fixed issue writing out altitude when exporting to the GDB file format.
  • Fixed track filtering 'automatic mode' for tracks with no time information.
  • Fixed elevation profile labels for Windows XP (no longer invisible).
  • Fixed issue when duplicating a route. BaseCamp will now also duplicate the waypoints in that route.

I start up basecamp - I get prompted to update software - I say update software - it updates and than when it is done I select run basecamp. Everything is OK. I close the program and restart basecamp - it prompts me to update software - if I cancel or say no it will not run. If I say update the process starts over again. Help - I don't like having to update the software every time I run it. I'm on a windws 7 - 64 bit processor.

Delete the shortcut you are using for BC that points to the 3.3.0.3Beta.
    Uninstall the BC 3.3.0.3Beta.

(I also got caught by that!)

That would be my advice as well.

Yes. I got caught by that, too. I kept launching the beta which would prompt me to update. I would update but through habit I would launch from the beta icon again and get prompted to update again.

    ...ken...
  • I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but I find myself using a set of Lists I already have in place, and I keep adding data (waypoints, tracks) from several gpx files. When I import the new files, a new list is created, then I select the items, and send them to the previously created list, and then delete the List created upon importing. I could save some steps and some clicks with a function such as "Import into selected list", or Import into List (then a Dialog prompts for the List) or Select a List, then right click and use a "Import Here..." option. Thanks for considering this feature.
  • Is until now that I notice that if I select multiple tracks, right click properties, and change to the graph tab, the tracks are shown side by side,
with different colors, this is very useful for comparison between tracks, but it would be nice to have another option (maybe a check option in the graph tab)
to display al the tracks with their alternate colors one after the other, so that if I have for example one track for each day of a multi-day trek, I dont have to join all
the tracks first to get a overall graph of the whole trek

JBADILLA, these are both nice suggestions, thank you for your feedback.

I'll add a suggestion too--Please move the Map Display Features (in the Option/Activity Profile) to the top of the window. I find I am changing it's contents much more than any of the others. It's off the bottom of the screen on my laptop, so I forget that's where it is.

    Thanks, Ron
  • Two suggestions:

I would like to see the the zoom function return to the Mapsource method. I like the ability to directly select the scale factor and not have to step to the desired scale.

I hope this one makes sense.

I'm looking at a route and have zoomed in for some detail. I then want to look at my list of waypoints and just get the property of a waypoint. If I click over on that list I'm immediately scaled out so the selected waypoint is visable on the map. Can we have the click just select the item but not bring it onto the map until I select a "show selected waypoint on map"?

    Thanks,
    Dave

    @Falagar: Routing without vectorline

I am still thinking about a solution for forcing the routing in an area, where by fault of the map, no road is available, f.e. a missing link between two roads.

My idea: Setting points in very very little distances should force the routing software to follow these points and not the vector line of the road.
In programming means this: Follow the points if distance to the next point is less than distance to the road AND distance to next point is less than 10m.

Something like this works in Basecamp, f.e. when in profile unpaved roads is set to not available. By setting some more points on an unpaved road Basecamp gives up and the road is used.

Would this be possible without a vector line?

We'll hopefully come up with some solution to this problem. How exactly that solution will look like, I cannot yet say.
