Display multiple maps at the same time

The Oregon allows multiple maps to be enabled at the same time, yet BaseCamp does not support this. I have custom trail maps that display over the topo maps on the Oregon. In BaseCamp the same functionality is needed.

.....But really, I think all this tech info is going beyond what's appropriate for Garmin's forums. I suggest you join in the fun over at GPSfileDepot to discuss mapmaking issues.

I agree. I've been there for quite some time. But based on the posts here, I thought I might be doing something wrong. (Although I remember reading about 3'rd party map installs in win 7 64.

I'm still surprised Garmin doesn't include an "image import" function to work with unprotected .img files that don't have installers. Seems like a reasonable expectation!

PS: Thanks for the other info!

Well, on the Mac they do - it's a program called MapManager. No such thing on Windows though. I suspect that's because they got a clean start on the Mac just a couple years ago, but Windows already had it's "tradition" of registry based maps, and it was only intended to work with their own products.

Guess I'm going to have to find a copy of "Mac-On-Win."
(Or an OSX emulator for Windows-7) ~ How ironic. (Funny almost!)

Not worth the effort to emulate apple unfortunately. (not to mention it's not technically legal)

Well the reason that this works is because the Mac version only uses the "gmap" format I described above. If you convert an existing registry based Windows map to gmap with Mapconverter (see my earlier post), you can just drag and drop the folder to install or remove it. Basically, that's all that MapManager does on the Mac.
