Topo AND contours

Hello,

I really don't know how to make Basecamp display two maps at the same time - and seemingly that's what my topographic map and its contours are about. When I open the Maps menue I can choose only one "map" at a time which makes it impossible to display altitude contours.

I found the topographic map here: http://garmin.opentopomap.org/
That map comes with a separate contours file. On my fenix 5X all I had to do was to drag two files into the appropriate folder and luckily it worked. But with Basecamp it's a another story... Since the countours file doesn't appear as "installed" in Basecamp I additionally copied the austria_contours.img into the map's installation folder but so far it hasn't helped either.

Is there a way to make things work? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1308787.png ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1308788.png
  • Thank you for the information. I seemed to be having problems doing exactly that. The map names would show up within the 64s menu, but when selected, the contents wouldn't be displayed, so I assumed it was because of the naming convention I was using. I will revisit again.
  • Are you going into Menu, Setup, Map, Select Map, then select the map you would like hit Enter then select Enable? If so it should display. As Red90Rover said the easiest way is to use profiles. As an example you could have a profile you call Auto with the City Navigator map enabled and one you call Hike with the topo map enabled. Then when you get to the trailhead switch profiles and you will get the topo map and any other settings you have in that profile. As an example you might want different data displayed in each profile.
  • After removing my original gmapsupp map file from the 64s and the sdcard, I then recopied both map files onto the scard (not the 64s internal storage) and gave them each unique descriptive names. And the 64s now works perfectly with both maps on the sdcard. I will now investigate creating separate profiles as you recommended, as that approach makes good sense. If I have further issues, I will post again. Thank you again for your help.
  • [If this post is too much of a departure from the original intent of this thread, please let me know and I will repost to a more appropriate thread].
Creating Profiles worked very well. I created one profile called "Driving" (enabling only the City Navigator map) and another profile called "Hiking" (enabling only the Topo Map). Switching between profiles was trivial and worked exactly as designed. Having succeeded with these two maps, I then wanted to add a third map - LakeVu Ultra (LVCA100Y), a map that I used very successfully on its own previously on the 64s. However, now that I have 2 other maps resident on the 64s, LakeVu will not load onto the device. Moreover, it will not load onto BaseCamp. The strange thing is that all three maps will load successfully onto HomePort - but not on the 64s Device. I am attaching two snapshots. Drive "U" is the sdcard inserted into the 64s. In case it matters, I have reset my device (Enter, Page, Power) with no effect.
The BaseCamp snapshot shows two maps loaded properly but a redline under the LVCA100Y map; LVCA100Y won't load onto Basecamp nor the device.
The HomePort snapshot shows all three maps (including LVCA100Y) loaded properly; LVCA100Y loads onto HomePort but won't load onto the device
    Any suggestions are most appreciated.
