Road not appearing in GPS thats is on Basecamp?

The road is "Geology Tour Rd" and located in Joshua Tree National Park. Both the GPS and Basecamp have City Navigator North America NT2018.2. I reinstalled the latest map in the GPS.
The road appears in Basecamp and can be routed, but the GPS takes a 80 miles detour around it. Also the road does not appear in the GPS map display. Ive tried different map detail settings with the Geology Tour Rd still not appearing.
Any thoughts as to how this can me mended? Thanks!
  • Another thing to consider is a faulty map install.

That dubious Geology Tour Road in Joshua Tree NP? I just recalled that I headed south on that road along about sundown one evening a long time ago.
  • HAHA. Yes that one. It was an easy offroad. Its a loop in and out. Could be done with a 2WD. Some of the other dirt roads I planned (and showed up in Basecamp and the gpx transfer) were not recommended because it has just rained for 2 days. Im headed back out there tommorrow to see if the roads have healed enough to tackle them in my Jeep Wrangler. I keep checking back here with the hope that a BC update was released....closing in on 2 years now since the last
  • I wouldn't bother. Despite a post raising rumours of a BaseCamp update I understand there isn't anything planned.

I am having a problem with my Zumo 595 sending me on unpaved and even impassable dirt roads although I have avoid unpaved roads checked. I can lay out a route on Basecamp and it looks fine, but the Zumo will change the route and even announce "turn right onto the unpaved road". Fastest route will put you on interstates, shortest will put you on dirt. Checking no unpaved roads is useless. I have current firmware and maps. The Zumo has done it since new. Many dirt roads in many states. I am on a Goldwing pulling a trailer so I try to avoid throwing rocks up on the trailer. Any ideas how to avoid dirt? Thanks
  • Which map? If you have your device set to avoid unpaved roads and you're still being sent on them it may simply be a map error.

My current map is City Navigator North America NT 2018-02. But it has been going on since I purchased the Zumo 595 4-5 years ago, when it first came out. I update maps 3 times a year, whenever they come out, hoping they have improved. The firmware is always current also. It has directed me to many (say 25-30) in NE GA, New York and Vermont. Last week between Cambridge, NY and Arlington, Vermont I came to road construction. I had to go around and it sent me on a old unpaved road(Murray Hollow Road) that had a gate across it. That was after the mud bog and small creek. The Zumo even announced it was sending me on an unpaved road, so it knew it was unpaved. Had a similar problem last year in Vermont. It has sent me on closed and gated roads in Georgia as well. It appears that the feature to avoid unpaved roads is ignored.
  • Try a master reset to see if that resolves it. If not try calling Product Support. Only time I've been sent on an unpaved road was when it was the only option.

The Zumo may have had gps points drift too far to lock the route to the center of the roadbed due to environmental conditions such as leaves or nearby road cuts through mountains. This can cause the device to try to make a U-turn in the middle of nowhere, even into a locked gated community or any available dirt road. Try setting the device to permit U-turns which will at least notify you of which issue you are dealing with.

Add Edit: I have no personal experience with Zumo device routing other than in trying to understand it in Basecamp. However in trying to understand the motorcycle activity curvy road settings and others, I speculated that the default settings may limit access in certain road categories that may not be specifically listed. So if the user is consistently being downgraded to unwanted road routing categories it may be better to opt to activate the Major Road setting or reset to Automobile activity for test purposes and also set the re-calculate option to "Prompt". Good luck.
