Export route from basecamp 4.6.2 to RV660

Could someone refer me to instructions on how to export a route from Basecamp to an RV660 and have the exported route appear as a route on the RV660?

Thanks.
  • Just drag/drop it from the Base Camp folder to your device. It will then appear in unscheduled trips.

Or right click it and select Send to

I think I did that, but I will follow those instructions very carefully and try again. I'll reply back with results, whatever they are.

    Thanks.

    I still must misunderstand something.

    1) I have a route created in Basecamp. I connected my Garmin RV660 to the computer. In Basecamp, I right clicked on the name of the route. I chose "Send To" and in the "Select Destination" box clicked on User Files under Memory Card under RV660 under Devices.

    2) In Windows File Explorer, two files show up under RV660, Memory Card/GPX/route.gpx & waypoints.gpx.

    3) On the RV660, the waypoints show up as saved destinations; but nowhere can I find the waypoints connected as a route. Since I created a route in Basecamp, I thought that I could export that route as a whole to the RV660 with the waypoints, shaping points and sequence of travel. Is this incorrect?

    4) I followed the instructions in the link to touch Apps, then Trip Planner. I waited for 10 minutes, but I think all that got transferred was the aforementioned waypoints. The link says "Until the trip(s) show up in Trip Planner, do not turn off the device or connect it to a computer." But the trips (Routes?) never showed up.

    Thanks for any help.
  • Are you sure you're sending a route? Everything you're doing sounds correct so all I can think of is that you're sending a track and not a route?

Well, I am new to Basecamp and pretty new to my RV660 so anything is possible. However, I created what I think is a route using Basecamp's route creation tools. The route I made is a collection of waypoints and one shaping point connected by a magenta line, and has embedded arrowheads showing the direction of travel on that magenta line. If I click on that magenta line with the selection tool, the route creation box appears with the tabs Properties, Route Directions, etc. at the top of the box. So I think it is a route. Also, the file route.gpx (as well as waypoints.gpx) appears on the RV660 after I exported the route, and prior to that export the memory card was empty.

Tell me what to try next or where my error is and I'll do all I can to make it work.

    Thanks.
  • That sounds right. The only other thing I can think of then is the number of waypoints/viapoints in your route. Your 660 is limited to 30, have you used more than that? Also how long is the route?

The real route I've been trying to transfer consists of 144 points and 10 via points and is 1426 miles long.

Using the RV660 itself, I erased all my saved destinations and all my saved trips (routes). I erased all external memory items using the Basecamp interface. I disconnected the RV660 and re-connected it. Using Basecamp I viewed the contents of the internal memory and the external memory. Internal memory had only one waypoint (my home location) and the pre-installed map. External memory was completely empty.

I created a very simple route with 7 points and 2 via points, 16.9 miles long and sent it to the User Data folder on the memory card. I right-clicked the User Data folder on the memory card and ejected it. On restart of the RV660, I chose Apps and Trip Planner. Very briefly the "I'm busy doing something" circle rotated, then the RV660 turned itself off. On restart, the two via points of my short route show up as saved destinations, but not as a route or trip in Trip Planner.

Should I reset the RV660 by holding in the power button for 12 seconds to see if that helps?

    Thanks!
  • I would. From the sounds of it you're doing everything correctly, it should be working, at least with your shorter route :)

Although I would first try sending the route directly to your device, rather than the card, just to see if that makes any difference.

The other route wouldn't be accepted.

Thanks for sticking with me on this issue. I did the reset.

I deleted all waypoints from the RV660 using the RV660 itself to do so. I connected the RV660, sent the short route to the memory card user file, and removed the RV660 when the green check mark appeared over the user file. I turned on the RV660; the waypoints were there, but no route.

I repeated the above, and sent the route to internal memory. No luck.

    Help! And thanks.
  • Sorry but I'm out of ideas. From what you've said this should be working. I'd either now consider returning it to the retailer or contact Garmin Support by phone to see if they can help.

One thing I'd try first though would be a master reset
