What is going on here ?

I am making a route in BaseCamp

1 starting point
1 end punt
and 2 via (customized route) points (both don't alert)

This is how the route looks like

But this is how it looks after I have send the route to the GPS

Strange

What is going on here ?

All device options (in Basecamp) are "off" (not checked).

I also tried changing the "via Points" to Alert and it still looks the same in the GPS.
Activity Profile is Car and both settings are the same "fastest route" etc etc

Thanks in advance
  • I want to know why for example Punt 2 is showing but not Punt 3 and Punt 1 in the GPS

I suspect it's because they are too close to other via points (that alert).

And the other thing what is the "End" after "End Punt" as "End Punt" is my End Point

The "end point" is the last via point in the route. "End" isn't a point or position.

So what you are saying is that I can name my Via Points what ever I want in BaseCamp but when I send them to the GPS they will be renamed ?

Try locating your via points farther away from the start/end points. (Ihave no idea what purpose having them so close could be.)

But why is there a different End Point, it's 0 Meters from my own End Point but it's there.

It's something called "End" (not "End point"). Just ignore it.
  • They seem to be showing, just titled something different.

This doesn't seem to be what is going on.

"Chon Buri 1008" could be the "something different" for "Punt 1" but that point isn't "5 min" away from the start and "Punt 3" wasn't renamed (it's just missing).

Thank you guys for your responses

in your first post, it shows 3 points between the start and finish, all set to "do not alert". Yet you state that only two are set to do not alert. Is it possible that the missing points on the device are the two you mention as being set to "do not alert". I believe that devices that accept/use the "do not alert" status should not show them as part of the route on the device.

That's just a Typo, sorry it should read 3.

I suspect it's because they are too close to other via points (that alert).

Oke, I tried it with the Via Points 15 km away from other Via Points and it comes out the same way

Try locating your via points farther away from the start/end points. (Ihave no idea what purpose having them so close could be.)

I tried that, and the reason why they are so close was because that was a Test and I wanted to travel that route, if I don't use those points the GPS just wanna send me direct to the destination which is "End Punt" but that doesn't seem to be my destination but "End" is, which I didn't create.

I made the same route with WayPoints and those get transferred correctly, so I have my solution as I am a bit reliant on the name of the Points (the ones that help me make my route) and the End Point will be the name of the place (and phone number) where we will be staying the night so just getting them renamed to "END" or not showing up isn't helpful at all and just ignoring it isn't an option for me (unfortunately)

I am now re-creating ALL my routes with WayPoints instead of ViaPoints (or shaping points) (a ^%#&#* of a job) but that is the only way it seems to be working in keeping the route intact when sending it to my GPS.

    Thanks again guys, really appreciated.

Ps: One more question if I may, what is the Max WayPoints you can have in a Route ?
  • Maximum points in a route depends on the device. What do you use?

Current device is in my Sig, a Nuvi 2575

But thinking of Changing to a 760LMT-D or a Zumo 590LM
  • Your nuvi can have up to 30 in a route but more shaping points, number of those I don't know, not even sure if there is a limit. Zumo 590 and 760 are the same.

    Some detail is here https://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/case.faces?caseId={27edcdb0-0c86-11dd-dc9c-000000000000}#660760

    Thanks !!

ooh 30 that is more then enough, max I have seen now (since started changing my routes) is around 10 with the rest being shaping points. (I call them Via Points (sorry))
  • Garmin terminology is confusing. Viapoints in my mind can be waypoints or shaping points. Either way 30 should indeed be enough for most folks.

    Some information is here

I have been experimenting A LOT the last couple of days.

Even when I put WAYPOINTS in the Route they are getting renamed

So for example, I place a arbitrary Waypoint in a route and rename that WayPoint to for example Place to Stop.

If I send that Route to the GPS, the Waypoint is renamed to the name of the road, but when I put more info in the Waypoint like for example, address, country etc it doesn't get renamed. Strange.

I send the GPX to a guy who has a Zumo and he imported the GPX.

He has the same problem as I have, so he also sees an extra Stop / End on the Route 0 Meters from each other.

Could it be that it is Map related, as we both use the Thai Map?
